As you might imagine from the low cost of the membership and single session fees, this is a fairly small gym with around 20 stations of equipment, largely supplied by Star Trac and Cybex. For cardiovascular training there is one or two of each of the following: treadmills, cross trainers, rowing machines, cross trainers and exercise bikes. For resistance training, you will find a selection of machines, such as lat machines, chest and shoulder presses and leg extensions and curls. There is also a small free weights area, benches and a power cage.

Fitness Classes

The centre hosts a small selection of fitness classes, held in the sports hall. You can try Boxercise that uses techniques from boxing for an aerobic workout, Vinyasa Yoga, which is a traditional form of yoga that focuses on spiritual serenity, MetaFit, which is a high intensity class, UoC Dance, which is an aerobic workout set to modern and retro dance anthems, and Freestyle Fitness Yoga that blends traditional yoga with modern fitness techniques. Classes start at £3.50 per session and are available for members of the public who can attend on a one-off basis.

Facilties

The centre has a large sports hall that is available to hire, from £29 per session. The hall can be used for a variety of games, including basketball, tennis, badminton and five-a-side football.

Other Features

The centre offers gymnastics classes for children aged 5-11. You can also book the sports hall for a child’s birthday party with a room available for food. Additionally, there is a café open to the public at the university campus.
