Summertime events are drawing to an end as the kids go back to school, however, September still has plenty of great events, including agricultural shows, food festivals, art exhibitions and plenty more where that came from.

Hutton-in-the-Forest: Dog Show & Airfield Walk
Hutton-in-the-Forest will feature two events in the month of September with the first being the Eden Animal Rescue Dog Show from 11-4pm on Sunday the 3rd of September. This is a family-friendly fun day with dog shows, face painting, cake stalls, crafts, music, games for humans and dogs, and more. The cost is just £8 for adults and children up to 16 go free.
The second event is taking place on Wednesday 6 September and is entitled Airfield Walk with Heather. Please keep an eye on their website for further details once they become available or get in touch with the venue directly to find out more.
BMF Lucky Cup Rally 2023
The BMF Lucky Cup Rally 2023 is taking place at Muncaster Castle from September 8th to 10th. The event is organised by the British Motorcyclists Federation and will include live music, food, a rally bar, traders and more!
Jocelyn McGregor: Dredged – Art Exhibition at the Windermere Jetty Museum
The wonderful Lakeland Arts will be featuring Jocelyn McGregor, a local contemporary artist and sculptor, from the 15th of September up until the 1st of January, 2024. The exhibition will take place at the Windermere Jetty Museum and will be open from 10am to 5pm each day where you will discover weird and wonderful creatures sculpted by McGregor.

Pride by the Harbourside
Pride by the Harbourhide celebrates equality and diversity in West Cumbria and is taking place on Saturday 16th September from 10am-7pm. The event is family-friendly and free for anyone hoping to attend. The event will include live music, food & drink stalls and more.
Dalemain Harvest Festival
The Dalemain Harvest Festival is taking place on Sunday, 17 September from 10am to 4pm. The event will celebrate the harvest season with talks, activities, guided tours, fell ponies, tractors, herbs & apples harvested from the estate, as well as an autumnal menu at the tearoom. The cost is just £5 for adults and children 12 and under are free.
Cockermouth Food Festival
The Cockermouth Food Festival takes place annually in September and lands on Saturday the 23rd and Sunday the 24th in 2023. The food festival includes market vendors, a street party, a drinks tent and outdoor picnic area with live music, a hot food court, a demo stage with live chefs, fairground rides and children’s activities.
Brantwood: A Walk in the Hills
A new exhibition is starting in September at John Ruskin’s old home, Brantwood, and features local landscape artist, Frank Gordon. The painter has completed all 214 Wainwright fell walks and spent most of his life studying and teaching art. The exhibition opens on 23rd September and will continue until the start of the new year.
Two Day Wilderness Survival Training Course
Green Man Survival puts on various survival training courses throughout the year with one taking place toward the end of September from the 30th to the 1st of October. The two-day course will teach you how to be self-sufficient alone in the wild, teaching you basic survival skills, such as how to make a shelter, build a fire, where to find safe drinking water, how to forage for food, how to signal for help, which tools to bring and how to use them, as well as basic first aid tips. Best to book well advance to avoid disappointment.
Heron Corn Mill: September Events
The Heron Corn Mill is putting on a good amount of events throughout the month of September:
- Mill Tour: The next mill tour and milling demonstration is taking place on Friday, 1st September from 11.30am to 1pm.
- Foodie Fridays: This is taking place on Friday, 1st September from 1-3pm and involves a food market with a selection of bread, jam, honey, fresh veg and produce, and more.
- Hands On – Crafting with Erika & Baking with Kate: The crafting event is taking place on Monday 11th September from 1-4pm and the baking event is taking place on Wednesday 20th September from 1-4pm. The events are designated for elderly people, people with dementia, wheelchair users and people who are unable to stand for long periods of time. Carers welcome.
- Textile Workshops: There are three different textile workshops on 5th September, 18th September, and 25th September where you can learns things, such as wet felting, weaving, spinning, eco printing and silk painting.
- Crafternoons: If you love crafts, check out the Crafternoon on Tuesday 19th September from 1-4pm. This is a free drop-in workshop and social event.
- Powsowdie: Powsodie involves live music and food from 11-2pm on Thursday, 21st September. The event is aimed at the older people in the community.
