With the summer solstice taking place on Monday the 21st of June, we are happy to see the days get slightly longer. The weather is also looking up in the Lake District this June with a slightly less rain predicted... we hope. Here we sum up some of the events happening in June, including great indoor and outdoor events perfect for the whole family.

Great North Swim

The Great North Swim is taking place this June at Windermere from Friday the 11th to Sunday the 13th of June, 2021. The events costs anywhere from £19 up to £89 depending on the distance you plan to swim and raises money for WaterAid in addition to other charities. So, whether you want to swim 250m or 10km, this is a great event for you swimmers wanting to do something good for the world.
Lakeland Arts: Windermere Jetty Museum Wrecked Exhibit

The Windermere Jetty Museum is re-opening on Friday the 28th of May with a new exhibit. The exhibit is entitled Wrecked and is an immersive experience, revealing what lies on the bottom of Lake Windermere. From sunken ships to hidden treasures, you'll be surprised what you'll discover at this new exciting exhibit. The cost is merely the standard entrance to the museum and you can, of course, pre-book your tickets online. In addition to the museum, the lakeshore cafe at the Windermere Jetty Museum is also open with picturesque outdoor dining, as well as their Heritage Boat Trips.
Hutton in the Forest: Classic Cars in the Park

Hutton in the Forest is hosting a fantastic Father's Day event on Sunday the 20th of June, displaying classic cars in the stunning surroundings of Hutton in the Forest. The event takes place from 10am to 4pm and costs £7.50 for adults with children 15 and under free. Well behaved pups on leads are welcome, but not in the garden areas. English Lakes Tours: Private Tours

English Lakes Tours is a wonderful way to discover the Lake District with the help of a local guide. If you are new to the area and wish to maximise what you see, then the English Lakes Tours is a great option. The company offers a range of various tours, including "Ultimate Tours" where you are able to visit 10 lakes in one day! Prices vary by tour with full or half days available, so be sure to get in touch with them to schedule your adventure.
The Rheged Centre

The Rheged Centre always has something going on and June is no exception. In June, the Great Print Exhibition 6 continues and is free to attend, but requires booking a time slot to ensure availability. Indoor Play is also available with a new state-of-the-art indoor play centre. At £5 per child, this is the perfect option for those rainy days and is available 9am to 4.30pm. Again, in keeping with Covid safety protocols, it's essential that you book your child's place in advance to guarantee a space. Lastly, Peter Rabbit 2: The Runway is playing at Rheged starting for just £6.50 a person with family discounts available.
In addition to the events, Rheged, of course, offers its new café with a modern menu, featuring speciality food and drink from around Cumbria. There is also a shop where you can buy this speciality food, as well as kitchenware and other supplies.
Muncaster Castle: Funcaster Festival

Muncaster Castle is hosting a "Funcaster Festival" from Sunday May the 30th to Tuesday June the 1st. The festival is formerly known as the Festival of Fools and features family-friendly games and activities, including everything from willow craft to axe throwing. There will also be ample food and drink stands and the Bird Shows will be back on. Additionally, the Castle will be open for guided tours – though, please note that this needs to be booked in advance of your visit.
Cowshed Creative: June Courses

Cowshed Creative is offering a series of courses in the month of June, including: Dry Stone Walling Course, Raku Potter – 2 Day Course, Wildlife in Hedgerow in Lino Printing, Oil Painting Techniques, Willow Garden Structures, Mosaic in a Day Workshop, Lakeland Landscape Watercolour & Mixed Media, Drapes to Dungarees, Indigo Dye & Shibori Techniques, Fun Vintage Brooches, Seaglass Jewellery Course, Colourful Anodised Aluminium Jewellery, and Exploring with Your Camera. Courses vary by dates, timing and pricing, so please check with Cowshed for further details and availability.
Wordsworth Museum: Woodland Adventures & Virtual Poetry Gatherings

The Wordsworth Museum in Grasmere has a few events taking place in June, including a few outdoor events for children and their families, as well as some virtual poetry meet-ups for adults.
Starting on the 2nd and 3rd of the month with their Woodland Wanders, families with children aged 0-11 will enjoy this adventure into the wood looking at tiny flowers and patterns in the clouds and exploring nature at its finest. Also on the 3rd is the Walking to Water event in which you will walk from Dove Cottage to White Moss Common and children can sketch/paint their surroundings. This event is for families with children of all ages.
Other events taking place include virtual poetry events where budding poets can learn more about the art of poetry or even share their works with others. Please check the official website for dates, time and availability. As with everything these days, it's prudent to book in advance.
Whinlatter Forest: Adventure Walks & Trail Running

Whinlatter Forest is hosting a range of walks throughout the month of June. There are two Family Adventure Walks on Wednesday the 2nd of June and Friday the 4th of June with a start time of either 10am or 2pm. There is also an Introduction to Trail Running on Friday the 4th of June and Wednesday the 16th of June, starting at 6.15pm those days.
Lastly, there is a well-being event celebrating the Summer Solstice where you can explore Whinlatter Forest and learn how to connect with nature. This takes place on Sunday the 20th from 10am. Please check the official site for further information, availability and pricing.
Lakeland Maze Farm Park Re-Opens

The Lakeland Maze Farm Park is re-opening from the 29th of May! This family run park is a wonderful place for children and their families to get outdoors and explore life on a real working farm. There is a maize maze, play equipment, animal petting areas, a café, and a soft play area. In terms of activities, they mention "air bouncers", which are new in 2021, trampolines, outdoor karting, and plenty more where that came from. The Lakes Distillery: Tours & Alpacas

The Lakes Distillery is holding distillery tours again in line with government Covid regulations. Events include a Distillery Tour & Tasting for £15, a Lakes Whisky Tour for £30, a Whisky & Chocolate Pairing Tour for £30, as well as a meet and greet with Alpacas via Alpacaly Ever After.
Brewery Arts: Cinema

Brewery Arts are once again showing films with Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, Raya & the Last Dragon, Nomadland, amongst other feature films. Tickets are generally £8.50 for adults with discounts for over 60s, children, and students. Best to book online in advance of your visit to avoid disappointment.
