Whether you’re coming to admire the daffodils in the Lake District, enjoy a refreshing stroll through the fells, or simply take in the views in one of the many pubs, the month of March is a wonderful time to visit the Lake District. The events start to pick up a little, as well, with the Keswick Film Festival taking place, as well as Words on the Water at the Theatre by the Lake. Hutton-in-the-Forest & Gardens Foraging Course
Hutton-in-the-Forest is re-opening in March on Sunday the 30th and will also be having a foraging course. The course is put on by Wild Food UK. The course will take place between 12.30pm and 3.30pm. The afternoon will include 2.5 hours of foraging and will end with a Wild Food meal.
Keswick Film Festival
The annual Keswick Film Festival is taking place from the 6th to the 9th of March. The festival will showcase a range of films, including short films and animations.
South Cumbria Music Festival
The South Cumbria Music Festival is taking place between the 15th and 21st of March at the Coronation Hall in Ulverston. This is an event for musicians to perform and play together. For more information, please visit their official website.
Mother’s Day Castle Afternoon Tea

Mother’s Day at Walby Farm Park
Mother’s Day at Walby Farm Park is on March 30th. Mothers get free entry within an accompanied child. Activities include meeting the animals, indoor soft play fun, a café with snacks and drinks, and plenty more where that came from.
Inspired by Industry Exhibit at the Beacon Museum
The Beacon Museum is putting on an ‘Inspired by Industry’ exhibit that takes a look at some of West Cumbria’s most distinguished artists with representations of the area’s local industrial past. The exhibit is on until the 30th of March in The Light and Dark Gallery. There will also be a talk on Saturday the 1st of March from 2-4pm by Chris Wadsworth who is one of the co-curators of the exhibit.
Spring Early Bird Photography Cruise on the Ullswater Steamers
The Ullswater Steams will be having a Spring Early Bird Photography Cruise with a professional photographer. The cruise will take place from 5.45am to 8.45am and will depart from Glenridding Pier.
Words by the Water at the Theatre by the Lake
The annual Words by the Water is taking place at the Theatre by the Lake between Wednesday 12 March and Sunday 16 March. The festival will celebrate local writers with writing workshops taking place, along with competitions for young writers. Check out the line-up of events and speakers on the official website.
