We are getting back into full autumnal spooky swing here in the Lake District with plenty of great spooktacular events returning this October 2021! We've compiled some of our favourites – be sure to book in advance for those events that require tickets so as to not disappoint.

Cumbria Wildlife Trust – Spooky October Events

The Cumbria Wildlife Trust has some great events this October, featuring a Night Time Wildlife Adventure where participants get to go out with a knowledgeable Reserve Officer and explore the Brown Robin nature reserve at night. Other events include mushroom exploration, an arts and crafts activity day, a creative writing workshop for children and their families, as well a Halloween beach cleanup. This October, Holker Hall is throwing an epic Halloween filled weekend on Saturday the 30th and Sunday the 31st with an interactive family theatre experience and a pumpkin trail. Visitors are encouraged to wear their spookiest outfits!

In addition to Halloween weekend, Holker Hall is also throwing an open wedding day on 10th October where you can learn all about having your dream wedding at the beautiful estate, as well as an Autumn Splendour Tour & Tea With Our Head Gardener. That one is pretty self explanatory in that you'll get to visit the grounds with the head gardener to enjoy the autumnal delights and enjoy an afternoon tea afterwards.

Taste Cumbria: Taste of Wigton

For the first time, Taste Cumbria food festival is going to the historic town of Wigton on Saturday the 23rd of October, 2021. There will be plenty of food and beverage market stalls, showcasing local produce, as well as live theatre by the John Peel Theatre. You can learn more about the event on their Facebook page.

We're happy to see more and events cropping up now at the Rheged with more events added as each month passes. In October, we're seeing some fun looking classes, such as learning how to fuse glass and working with acrylics, as well as a good variety of films, a Wainwright Memorial lecture and the Northern Photography Show. Watchtree Halloween Team Challenge

This one is not for the kids, nor the faint hearted and is 18+ only. Forming teams of 6 people, you'll be set loose in the forest for 45 minutes to find as many hidden checkpoints as possible. Meanwhile, people will be placed throughout the forest with their best intent to scare you! It looks reasonably terrifying to us, but for those who love a good scare, you'll have a great time, we're sure. Check it out here.

Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery: Half Term Activities & Pumpkin Carving

This October half term, Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery are hosting three relaxed craft sessions at 10.30am where children can make wax resist spider webs (Saturday 23rd), paper strip pumpkins (Tuesday 26th) and lollypop witches (Thursday 28th). You'll also be able to carve pumpkins where they clean up the mess for you (important for the parents, anyway!) on Wednesday 27th, Friday 29th and Saturday 30th from 1pm to 4pm.
