The Royal (Penrith)
If you are visiting Penrith and looking for a welcoming, traditional style pub where you can enjoy a pint of locally brewed real ale whilst catching up on all the latest sporting action, then head over to the Royal. The pub is situated on the edge of Penrith town centre and therefore tends to attract more of a local crowd.
Inside, you will find quintessential pub interiors with three large rooms all served by one main bar. The pub has a sports focus with pool, darts, and dominoes teams all operating out of here and the pub has several screens devoted for showing live sports events.

The Royal has received recognition from CAMRA for its support of locally brewed real ale. The bar has three hand pumps and serves a changing selection of real ale, usually sourced from Cumbrian breweries. In addition, the bar stocks a wide selection of draught and bottled beers, lagers and ciders. There’s a limited choice of wine that covers most of the basics, and the pub has a good choice of spirits, including a small collection of gins.
Food service at the Royal is limited to 5.30pm to 8pm Mondays to Thursdays, and noon until 4pm at weekends. The menu is limited to a selection of pub classics, such as scampi, lasagne, sausage, and burgers. On Thursday nights, there is a curry night, usually with a choice of curry dishes served with rice and naan breads.

The Royal welcomes dogs and water bowls are available if required. The pub has several games available for patrons to play, including a large pool table, dominoes, and a darts board. There are regular bingo nights and there is a fortnightly quiz on Thursday evenings that coincide with the pub’s curry night. The pub also occasionally hosts live music evenings with artists from the local area.
The pub has several television screens around the premises which means that visitors can see the display from almost all angles. The pub has subscriptions to Sky Sports and BT Sports and shows all of the major sporting events. The pub also has a small external seating area to the side of the building.
