Set within the grounds of this sumptuous four-star hotel that was once a stately home, the spa offers a quality gym experience with the added benefit of a full range of spa facilities. There is everything you need here to take a holistic approach to your health and wellbeing, including a fully-equipped gym, pool, steam room, sauna, hot tub, fitness studio, personal training services and more.
Armathwaite is located on the edge of Bassenthwaite Lake, just a few miles outside of Keswick, and is overlooked by the majestic summit of Skiddaw. The spa has a separate entrance and car park to the main hotel, and is open to members and those with a pre-booked spa session.
Planning Your Visit
Equipment
The gym is equipped with Life Fitness cardiovascular equipment from the company’s premium Elevation Series. With HD touch screen technology you can be entertained whilst you workout, and the equipment provides live data on your workout that can be used to enhance and improve your fitness regime. The gym is small, with one to three pieces of each type of cardiovascular equipment, some overlooking the beautiful hotel grounds. In addition, there are a small number of resistance machines, and a free weights area.
You must either be a hotel guest, member of the spa, or have booked onto a spa session in order to use the gym. A half day session in the spa starts at £75 with a treatment included.
Fitness Classes
Armathwaite hosts a range of fitness classes in the spa, and these are open to the public, costing £5 with the option to attend on a one-off basis. The range of classes includes Pilates, spinning, kettlebells, yoga, water aerobics, circuits, and interval training. An outdoor bootcamp also operates within the grounds of the spa. Classes are generally one hour long.
Personal Trainers
There are a team of personal trainers available at Armathwaite, who offer the unique “Life Regimen Positive Aging” programme. The programme involves an initial consultation that includes blood tests and a life assessment, as well as a tailored fitness and well-being regime. Personal training sessions start at £35, whilst a Life Regimen Day costs £154 and includes a full day in the spa, treatments and lunch.
Facilities
As this is primarily a spa, Armathwaite has plenty of facilities to enhance your well being. There are two pools, including one that is ideal for swimming laps, an outdoor hot-tub, a hydrotherapy pool, an aroma room with mood lighting and aromatic steam jets, a steam room, a sauna and ten treatment rooms.
