Crown & Mitre Inn (Bampton)
This hotel is permenantly closed

The Crown & Mitre is a pleasant and traditional Lakeland inn that is nestled in the quiet hamlet of Bampton. Far removed from the tourist hotspots, the inn is a short drive from Haweswater, one of the least visited lakes in the area.
This is a family run inn with bed and breakfast accommodation. It’s worth noting that opening hours are limited between October and March each year with the inn often open only during the weekends throughout the winter period. The inn is also only open in the evenings from 5pm.
Food & Drink
The pub is able to offer up to four cask ales at a time, and two are normally provided by the Bowness Bay Brewery. The remaining two are usually sourced from a changing selection of local breweries, such as the Keswick Brewery. The well-stocked bar has a fine choice of lagers, ciders, and bottled beers, as well as a respectable wine list that should suit most tastes. You will find all the usual spirits here, alongside a good choice of single malt whiskies sourced from some of the finest Scottish distilleries.
Food is served during the evenings only, and the chef takes care to source meat and fish from Cumbria wherever possible. The Crown & Mitre is a popular place to eat, and the only place to eat in the village during the evenings, so it’s best to book a table. The menu changes with the seasons, but you can expect to find a good mixture of pub favourites, such as burgers, along with more imaginative choices, such as soy & Cajun salmon. Diners are invited to finish off their meal with a delectable dessert or a selection of local cheeses.
Other Features
The pub is dog friendly in the bar and dogs can stay in the guest rooms for an additional charge. There is a small number of picnic tables outside the pub.
