The Mardale Inn
The Mardale Inn at St Patrick's Well is a community owned pub, which was purchased by over 500 members of the Bampton Community in May 2022. Prior to opening, the pub was closed for five years before the Bampton Valley Community Pub brought it back to life.
The pub is re-opening in phases thanks to invaluable support from the Prince's Countryside Fund and now serves local Cumbrian ales and draught beers, as well as traditional pub fare. This is a true community pub with various events taking place throughout the year, including pub quizzes, charity poker nights, live sports shown on screens, darts matches and more.
Food & Drink
As the pub is owned by the community, it first started out as a drinks only pub, but has since received funding from the Prince's Countryside Fund to open the kitchen. There is a lunch menu and also an evening menu, but generally, you'll find classic pubfare options, like sausage & mash, fish & chips, steak & ale pie, and sticky toffee pudding. Whilst there is no specific children's menu, the pub does offer the option to have a smaller portion.
Additionally, the pub has a Sunday lunch menu, which offers a couple of traditional Sunday roast options. In terms of beverages, the Mardale Inn has an array of Cumbrian ales, draught beers, wine, gin and soft drinks. Please check the official website in advance of your visit for the most up-to-date menu details and opening times, as the pub is closed on certain days and only serves food at specific times.
Other Features
The Mardale Inn occasionally features a pub quiz, usually on a Sunday, which is announced on their events portion of their website. Certain sports games, such as bigger rugby or football matches, may also be available to watch and will be announced on the events portion of their website. Lastly, the pub sometimes hosts local darts competitions in the 'Snug' portion of the pub.
Dog humans will be happy to know that their best mates can join them in the pub as the Mardale is indeed dog friendly. Whilst there is no beer garden at the Mardale Inn, there are some popular bench seats outside the front of the pub to enjoy a beverage outdoors on sunnier days.
