Royal Oak (Braithwaite)

The Royal Oak in the small village of Braithwaite near Keswick is a traditional and charming country inn. Located in the centre of this tiny village, the pub is popular with local residents and with walkers who are attempting one of the numerous fell-walking routes that start in the village.
The cosy interiors have been recently refurbished but still retain the classic pub style with beamed ceilings, log fires, and walls adorned with unique local memorabilia. Being part of the Jennings brewery, the Royal Oak is a great choice for purveyors of locally brewed ales.
Food & Drink

Owned by Jennings Brewery who produce all of their ales in the nearby town of Cockermouth, the Royal Oak has four permanent real ales, all supplied by Jennings, including their ever popular Cumberland Ale. There is also one changing ale, usually supplied by Marstons (who own Jennings). The wine list is limited but reasonably priced and most tastes would be accommodated. In addition, you will find a good range of whiskies and spirits here, along with soft and hot drinks.
The Menu
Lunch is served every day from noon until 2pm. Evening meals are served between 6pm and 9pm and booking during peak times is recommended. The food here is very filling, with substantial portions, however, the pub does offer the opportunity to purchase smaller portions of some of the dishes for a reduced rate, ideal for those with smaller appetites.
Classic British cuisine is on the menu, with favourites, such as Cumberland sausage in a giant Yorkshire pudding, on the menu. It’s wholesome and unpretentious and you won’t find dishes served on slate or in jam jars. There’s an extensive vegetarian meal and children can either opt for a smaller version of a main as mentioned above, or choose from the dedicated children’s menu with the usual favourites included.
Other Features
Whilst dogs are permitted in the Royal Oak, it’s worth noting that this is only outside of food service times. When food is being served, dogs must be taken outside. The pub has a selection of games, quiz packs, and colouring books to help keep children amuse. Additionally, the Royal Oak pub has a small TV mounted on the wall that is tuned to Sky Sports with major football matches, etc., on display.
Accommodation

The Royal Oak has ten rooms available on a bed and breakfast basis. Each room has been elegantly decorated and offers comfortable and clean surroundings with a good selection of amenities, including televisions, tea and coffee making facilities, and en-suite bathrooms with complimentary toiletries. Free Wi-Fi is also included.
For overnight guests, a full cooked breakfast is available each morning along with a selection of cereals and juices. The inn offers hotel residents a packed lunch service that is ideal for when planning a day on the fells, and there are drying facilities for walking gear.
