The Wheatsheaf Inn (Brigsteer) Outside

Located on the edge of the Lake District national park and just over three miles from Kendal, the Wheatsheaf Inn is a delightful newly restored village inn that has won a number of awards. In 2013, the pub was faced with certain closure but was rescued by husband and wife team, Tom and Nicki. They undertook a full refurbishment and have created a warm and inviting space with elegant and understated interiors.

The inn is a popular place for eating out thanks to its delicious modern British cuisine. The inn is around a one-hour walk from Sizergh Castle and it’s also possible to ascend Scout Scar from the pub, a low level fell with 360 degree views that take in Cumbria, Lancashire, and Yorkshire.

Winner of the Cumbria Life Food & Drink Award for Pub of the Year in 2015 and finalist in subsequent years, the owners of the Wheatsheaf Inn have quickly built up a reputation for supplying excellent modern cuisine that uses the best of locally sourced ingredients. There are traditional favourites, such as Cumberland sausage and mash, modern classics such as Thai Green Curry, and the inn even serves pizzas with a variety of toppings that are hand made on the premises. There are choices for vegetarians and a limited selection of dishes aimed at children.

There is a well-stocked wine cellar that caters to most tastes and there is a good choice of wine available by the glass.
