The Snooty Fox (Uldale)
The Snooty Fox is a 17th century inn that is located in Uldale, a tiny village at the foot of the northern fells, not far from Bassenthwaite Lake. This cosy and charming inn serves a selection of locally brewed real ales, and has a solid reputation for its high quality gastropub style dining.
The Snooty Fox is a lively pub that is popular with local residents thanks to its varied and regular events, and with visiting tourists, particularly those who are attempting to cycle the C2C route that runs close by. Accommodation is available here, and the pub benefits from a dog friendly bar, a beer garden, and a pool room.
Food & Drink

The Snooty Fox is dedicated to providing some of the best locally brewed ale available. Cask ales are sourced from several local micro-breweries, including the Keswick Brewing Company and the Eden Brewery. You will also find a wide choice of keg beers, lagers, and ciders, including guest craft ciders and beers from popular brands, such as John Smiths and San Miguel.
For those who prefer to drink wine, the bar stocks a reasonable selection of wines from around the world, whilst whiskey lovers are spoilt with a choice of over 20 single malts from Scotland. In addition, the bar has a good choice of spirits and soft drinks.
The Menu
The Snooty Fox is only open in the evenings for most of the week and food is served every evening between 6.30pm and 8.30pm, except on Wednesdays. The chef uses locally sourced and seasonal produce wherever possible, and the menu offers a more upmarket take on traditional pub grub, with items such as sirloin steak or a seafood platter. There are daily specials that serve up even more imaginative dishes such as roasted partridge or venison steak.
Due to high demand the pub has recently started opening for Sunday lunch between noon and 2pm. The menu for this period changes each week, but it always includes a traditional roast dinner with all the trimmings and guests can opt for two or three courses for a set price. A children’s menu is available offering good quality dishes.
