The White Lion Inn (Patterdale)
Located in a stunning corner of the Lake District, the White Lion Inn in Patterdale is a quirky and characterful inn in Patterdale, near Ullswater. The inn is on Wainwright’s coast to coast walking route, making it a popular choice of walkers, and it offers traditional pub grub, real ale, and overnight accommodation.
Inside this charming and traditional inn you will find some unusual features, such as a suit of armour, as well as a cosy fireplace in the winter and a television with Sky Sports. The pub is a 20-minute walk from Glenridding where you can hop on board an Ullswater Steamer.
Food & Drink

The White Lion has two hand pulls for real ale and usually serves up Theakston’s Wainwright along with one other. The bar stocks a good choice of draught beers and ciders, as well as some bottled varieties. The wine list is limited, covering just the basics, but all varieties are available by both the glass and the bottle, with reasonable prices. The pub has recently enhanced its collection of gins, and you will find all the usual spirits and whiskies available here.
The Menu
Food is served daily from noon until 9pm. During quieter periods, these times may vary, and during peak periods, you may need to wait for a table as bookings are not taken. Sandwiches, filled rolls, and jacket potatoes are available until 6pm.
The main menu features all the usual pub favourites, including burgers, steak and ale pie, lamb stew, and fish and chips. Vegetarian options are very limited here and the pub prides itself on not being a “gastro-pub,” instead offering food that is filling and wholesome. Children can choose from a selection of hot meals with typical dishes, such as chicken nuggets, or a sandwich with crisps which is unusual for a pub.
