The Horse & Farrier (Dacre) Outside

A short distance from Pooley Bridge and UIlswater, the Horse & Farrier is a charming and welcoming inn in the small hamlet of Dacre, which is on the Dalemain Loop section of the Ullswater Way. Dating back to the 18th century, this traditional inn oozes with rustic charm and it has recently been refurbished with a style that is sympathetic to the building’s heritage.

Inside, there are exposed beams, wood burning stoves, and quirky features, such as stools crafted from beer barrels. This pub welcomes dogs and it serves food throughout the day. For weary travellers, the Horse & Farrier also offers overnight accommodation in cosy bedrooms.

Food is served from noon until 9pm Tuesdays to Sundays. Since new management took over in 2017, the pub has expanded its menu to offer more than just traditional pub dishes, such as burgers and fish & chips. These classics now feature on the menu alongside more imaginative dishes like vegan penang curry and the homemade tart of the day. If you prefer something lighter, then there is a good choice of sandwiches available. In addition, there are daily specials, whilst on Wednesday evening,s the pub offers a choice of pies with a pint of ale included for free. Smaller portions of the main menu are available for children.

The small bar has three hand pumps for real ale and it offers a changing selection of ales – most of which are locally brewed. There are also four keg beers available, and again the selection changes regularly. There is a respectable wine list, as well as a reasonable choice of spirits. The pub serves barista style coffee, as well as a number of soft drinks.
