The Sun Inn is located in the village of Newton Reigny that lies to the north of Penrith. It is a traditional 17th century coaching inn that has recently been refurbished and extended. Whilst it is popular with local residents the inn receives a lot of its trade from those attempting the Coast to Coast cycle challenge, being 45-miles along the route making it an ideal overnight stopping point at the end of the first day of cycling.

The pub is an independent family run business serving real ale from various breweries and it is home to a pool table, darts board, and television with Sky Sports channels. Children are welcome here but dogs are not permitted indoors.

Food & Drink

The Sun Inn (Newton Reigny) pub

The Sun Inn is a freehouse and therefore not tied to any particular brewery. It therefore offers a changing selection of real ales with three pumps available, and many are sourced from Cumbrian breweries. In addition, the pub serves draught and bottled lagers, beers, and ciders.

The pub has a wine menu with around a dozen varieties and tasting notes to help you choose. There is a good choice of whiskies, gins, vodkas, rums, and mixers, plus a number of soft drinks for those who prefer not to drink alcohol.

The Menu

Food is served twice a day during the week and all day from noon until 9pm at the weekends. It can be enjoyed in the large bar or in the cosy dining room. The menu is varied with something to suit most tastes and dishes are beautifully presented in a modern style. At lunchtime, there is a choice of sandwiches and hot snacks available alongside the main menu.

The main menu features several pub favourites, such as sausage & mash, and fish & chips with many of the ingredients sourced locally. Daily specials offer something a little more exotic with dishes, such as plaice & salmon kiev or pan fried duck breast making an appearance. There is a children’s menu that has a number of dishes that are sure to be a hit, including burgers. A roast dinner is served each Sunday with a choice of meat.
