The Clickham Inn (Penrith) Outside

The Clickham Inn is a friendly rural inn that lies on the edge of the Lake District between Penrith and Greystoke. Dating back to the Victorian era, the pub is popular with local residents, and is a social hub for the surrounding community. This pub is particularly welcoming to families with children, with a play area in the beer garden, and the pub also welcomes dogs into the bar area.

The Clickham Inn also benefits from Sky Sports screening, a pool table, and a darts board. The inn was taken over by new management in 2017 and the new owners have overseen a revival in the pub’s popularity, thanks to the excellent food and atmosphere that is on offer.

It’s worth noting that the Clickham Inn is closed on Mondays and does not serve food on Tuesdays. On Wednesdays to Fridays, food is served twice a day, at 12.30pm to 3pm and again at 6pm to 9pm. On Saturdays, food is available all day between 12.30pm and 9pm, and on Sundays, between 12.30pm and 6pm.

The menu is extensive and features a good mixture of pub classics and contemporary favourites. There are imaginative choices for vegetarians, such as Herb Pancakes, and gluten free options are also available. The menu includes a range of stone baked pizzas and if you prefer something a little lighter, then there is a good choice of sandwiches. The pub receives positive reviews for its pies, and on Thursday evenings, diners can choose from an extensive selection of shortcrust pies – all or which are homemade.

If you are seeking a sweet treat, then the pub does serve afternoon tea, but advance notice of 48 hours is required. The children’s menu has a welcome mixture of classic favourites, such as sausage and mash, and dishes for the more adventurous, such as a korma curry.

Drinks

The Clickham Inn has two handpumps for real ale and serves two local ales: Keswick Gold and Loweswater Gold. The small but well-stocked bar also serves several premium beers on draft, including Fosters and Guinness. There is a respectable choice of wines and the gin list is impressive for a pub of this size. You will also find the usual choice of whiskies, spirits, and soft drinks here, and if you prefer something hot, then tea and coffee is available.

Other Features

The Clickham Inn may seem small on the outside but inside it is akin to a TARDIS with a maze of rooms. There are a couple of dining rooms where dogs are not permitted. Dogs are welcome in the bar area where there are tables available for those wishing to dine with their pets. In the bar, you will also find a television screen and the pub has a subscription to Sky Sports and BT Sports so it is able to screen all of the major events. The pub also has a games room that is home to a full size pool table and a darts board – both of which are free to play.

Outside, there is a beer garden with views of the surrounding countryside. At one side of the beer garden, there is a dedicated play area for children with a climbing frame and slide, so children can play whilst adults enjoy a pint on one of the picnic benches. The pub hosts regular live music events and other community events, such as a Santa grotto during the festive period.
