Fletcher Christian Tavern (Cockermouth)
One of the liveliest pubs in Cockermouth, the Fletcher Christian Tavern in the heart of the town centre is named after the town’s most notorious son. Fletcher Christian led the mutiny on the ship, the Bounty, against Captain Bligh, driven by a desire to indulge in an idyllic lifestyle on Tahiti away from the harshness of naval life.
Several years ago, the pub had a similar reputation to that of its namesake, but having been taken over by new management, in the last few years the pub has been transformed into one of the most popular venues for late night entertainment. Live music is held here most weekends, and there are multiple television screens enabling various matches and events to be screened at the same time.
Food & Drink

The Fletcher Christian Tavern does not serve food. However, for many of its live music sessions and other special events, there is often a free buffet. The pub serves two changing cask ales, plus a good selection of draught beers and ciders. It is widely considered as the best pub for value for money in Cockermouth, with drink prices very low. You will find all of the popular brands of alcoholic drinks here, with a large selection of bottled drinks and a reasonable wine list.
Other Features
The Fletcher Christian’s key selling point is its status as the premier sports bar in Cockermouth. There are nine television screens located at various points around this large pub, and the pub has a subscription for BT Sports and Sky Sports. This means that the pub can screen multiple matches and events at the same time. The pub regularly holds events for major sporting competitions, including the Cheltenham races.
The pub hosts live music or karaoke sessions most weekends, showcasing some of the area’s local bands. There are regular special events throughout the year for national holidays, such as Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween and more. In addition, the pub has a pool table, darts board, and a games machine.
The pub holds a quiz night each Wednesday evening, starting at 7.30pm. Entrance into the quiz costs £2 per person and team numbers are limited to six people. There are a mixture of cash and alcoholic prizes available to win and there is a free buffet.
