The Kingfisher Inn (Cockermouth)
With what is arguably Cockermouth’s best beer garden, the Kingfisher Inn on the edge of the town centre is a big hit with families and those seeking to enjoy a pint on a sunny afternoon. Part of the Robinson’s brewery, the inn serves real ale and good home cooked food.
Family run, this is a very family friendly pub with a play area at the end of the beer garden that overlooks the river. The inn is very popular with locals, not only due to the beer garden and good food, but also thanks to its regular live music nights, as well as special events for national holidays and charity fundraisers.
Food & Drink
The Kingfisher Inn’s current landlords took over in 2016 and have quickly gained a reputation for providing excellent home cooked food at reasonable prices. The menu comprises of the usual pub fare, with the internationally inspired daily specials adding a more exotic flair to the choices. Sandwiches are available at lunchtime, but don’t be fooled into thinking this would be a “light” option, since the portions here are huge.
Sunday Lunch
Sunday lunches are particularly popular, with the option to choose a smaller portion for a reduced cost. Alternatively, the inn also offers a takeaway service for Sunday dinners. Simply take along your own plate and they will fill it up for you to take away. There are choices for vegetarians and there is a children’s menu with all the usual favourites.
Beer, Wine & Spirits
The inn serves one regular real ale, usually Dizzy Blonde by Robinsons, and one guest ale. In addition, there are several beers on draught or available bottled. The inn has a good selection of reasonably priced wine available by the glass, including Prosecco and Malbec. You will also find a good choice of spirits, as well as soft and hot drinks.
Other Features
The Kingfisher Inn hosts regular live music sessions, as well as events for national holidays, such as New Year’s Eve and St. Patrick’s Day. One of the key aspects that makes the Kingfisher Inn so popular is the large beer garden to the rear of the pub. It is multi levelled as it drops down towards the banks of the river.
At the very bottom level, there is a large piece of playground equipment. The family friendly theme continues inside where you will find baby changing facilities. The pub has a games area where you will find a pool table, darts board, and a giant connect 4 game. The pub also has free Wi-Fi available to its customers.
