The New Cock & Bull (Cockermouth)
It’s rare to find a traditional style pub that hasn’t succumbed to the pressure to pull in patrons by offering food service and more. Tucked away in a quiet side street in Cockermouth on the border of the western Lake District, you will find one of these rarities. The New Cock & Bull is very much a traditional style pub, and a local favourite.
There’s no gastro dining here, no accommodation, and no children’s play area. Instead, The New Cock & Bull harks back to simpler times, where a pub was somewhere to get together with friends and enjoy a good crack (chat) and real ale. The pub is split over three levels where along with the main bar area you will find cosy corners with comfortable sofas where you can sit and relax with a pint.
Food & Drink

The New Cock & Bull does not serve food, though there are is a limited selection of bar snacks available. However, it excels at providing real ale for reasonable prices and this has been recognised numerous times with awards from the local CAMRA branch. Being a freehouse, the New Cock & Bull is able to serve a selection of ales from various local breweries.
There are four regular ales: Consiton Bluebird, Corby Blonde, Corby Fox, and Jennings Cumberland – all produced within Cumbria. In addition, the pub serves one or two guest ales at any given time. The pub also serves three draught beers, and despite being a fairly small establishment, it also offers a good choice of wines, spirits, and soft drinks.

The pub has a pool table and a darts board. There are televisions in a couple of the rooms where major football matches and other sporting events are screened. It also hosts regular live music nights with local bands and singers performing, and, outside, there is a small beer garden. Dogs are welcome here and in the bar.
