The Black Cock Inn (Broughton-In-Furness)
The Black Cock Inn is a popular and traditional pub located in the centre of Broughton-In-Furness in the southern Lake District. It is widely considered to be an excellent place to grab a place to eat, thanks to the efforts of the head chef who spent many years working as a chef in some of Norway’s most exclusive ski resorts.
Dating back to the 18th century, the pub is filled with rustic charm, and whilst taller patrons might find the low beams bothersome, the inclusion of a cosy log fire during the winter months makes this pub a cosy destination that welcomes everyone, including dogs.
Food & Drink
Inside the Black Cock Inn
The pub’s refurbishment in 2017 included a brand new bar with five pumps for real ale. The pub serves a changing selection of well kept ales that are sourced from a range of local and national breweries, including Stringers Brewery in Ulverston. You will also find a good choice of premium beers, lagers, and ciders. The wine list is fairly limited, but it is reasonably priced, and there is the usual choice of spirits and soft drinks.
It is the food that mostly drives people to visit the Black Cock, especially since the arrival of head Chef, Rob Phillips, who is careful to use the best of locally sourced produce wherever possible. His menu is an imaginative blend of pub classics and internationally inspired cuisine. The mouth-watering steak and ale pie is made with local ale and beef, and whilst the mussels are sourced locally, their accompanying sauce made from coconut milk, chilli, coriander and ginger certainly has more exotic origins.
Burger fans will love the option to build their own burger from a choice of fillings, and there are lighter options available including a variety of filled tortilla wraps, sandwiches, and hot bagels. Sadly, vegetarian options are somewhat limited.
Other Features
The pub is dog friendly throughout and dog towels can be provided if required. There is a small, secluded beer garden to the rear of the pub.
Accommodation
Accommodation at the Black Cock Inn
The Black Cock Inn has just five cosy rooms, all of which have been beautifully styled with solid wooden furniture that complements the period nature of the building perfectly. It’s worth noting that just like in the bar and dining rooms, the ceilings in the guestrooms are very low, which may be uncomfortable for taller guests.
Rooms have en-suite facilities and also include a television and tea and coffee making facilities. There is one family room that has a double bed and bunkbeds. A full cooked breakfast is available each morning.
