Old Kings Head (Broughton-In-Furness)
Brimming with old world charm, the Old Kings Head in Broughton-In-Furness has recently undergone a full refurbishment and is now a stunning sixteenth century inn with beautiful interiors that enhance its period features. Inside you will find open fires, sumptuous leather sofas and armchairs, and intriguing decoration that celebrates the life of Henry VIII whose image adorns the pub’s sign.
This inn is superbly located for those who are visiting the southern Lake District and are looking for a comfortable place to eat or accommodation for the night. The pub attracts a large number of visitors and local residents, especially during the summer months when they fire up the outdoor BBQ and host regular live music sessions.
Food & Drink
The Old Kings Head has a cosy bar that is a delightful place to relax with a drink after a long walk on the fells. Here you can sample a changing selection of real ales, sourced from a mixture of local and national breweries. The bar also stocks a good number of craft ciders, along with the usual choices of internationally recognised beers and lagers on draught. There is a reasonably priced wine list that covers most of the basics, and the bar offers a fine choice of gins and mixers, including some locally distilled brands.
Food is served twice a day at the Old Kings Head on Mondays to Thursdays, and all day from noon on Fridays to Sundays. Local and seasonal produce is used wherever possible and everything is cooked on site. The menu is what you might expect from an upmarket gastropub, with classics such as burgers and pies served alongside more imaginative dishes such as stir fries and curries, with daily specials that allow the chefs to showcase their talents. On Sundays, a delicious roast dinner is available with a choice of two meats. The pub also offers an excellent children’s menu with a good range of choices and sides.
Other Features
The Old Kings Head benefits from a fantastic beer garden that features an outdoor kitchen, along with several picnic benches on a patioed area surrounded by some carefully maintained border and potted plants. During the summer months, the pub regularly offers BBQs accompanied by live outdoor music performances from local bands. Dogs are welcome in the bar and in the beer garden. Secure cycle storage is available here.
Accommodation
As part of the refurbishment, all of the guestrooms at the Old Kings Head have been decorated to a high standard and offer spacious, clean, and comfortable accommodation. The rooms are equipped with en-suite facilities, televisions, Wi-Fi, and tea and coffee making facilities. Dogs are permitted to stay with no extra charge in two of the rooms, and a full cooked breakfast is available each morning.
