The Good Sport (Grasmere)
Grasmere’s newest pub, the Good Sport, first opened its doors in February 2018 in the site of a former café. The gastro pub is a venture of husband and wife team, Paul and Beth Abbott, who wanted to create a tap room for their own micro-brewery that they also started at the same time.
The Grasmere Brewery has gone from strength to strength, achieving production of 4,000 litres per week in just seven months, whilst the Good Sport has quickly become one of Grasmere’s most popular venues for enjoying a quick pint or grabbing a bite to eat. Inside the venue, there is a modern, minimalist vibe. The walls are bare and the furniture comprises of refurbished beer barrels and leather seating.

The Good Sport serves as the tap room for the Grasmere Brewery. Currently the brewery’s range is limited to a pale ale, an Indian pale ale, a lager, and a bitter, and all are available on draught from the bar. The bar also stocks lager from nationally recognised breweries, and the pub’s pint prices are considerably lower than other venues in Grasmere. The pub stocks a respectable wine list, as well as a good choice of gins and other spirits. Cocktails are available for those who are feeling adventurous, and for those who prefer something non alcoholic, the bar serves soft drinks along with teas and coffees.
Food is served all day, starting with breakfast from 8.30am until noon. The breakfast menu not only comprises of the usual full English, but there are also a variety of healthier options available. During the rest of the day, the bar offers a delicious range of choices. The modern menu has a mixture of hot and cold sandwiches, hot snacks, and both contemporary and classic main dishes, including burgers, local lamb shank, and Teriyaki beef salad. Ingredients are sourced locally wherever possible. There are daily specials that feature imaginative dishes, whilst a classic roast dinner is served each Sunday. There is a limited children’s menu that includes a jam sandwich for the really fussy eaters. If you prefer a sweet treat then homemade cakes are available throughout the day.
