The Royal Oak Inn (Bowness-On-Windermere)
As the official finishing point for the Dales Way, a national walking trail that stretches from Ilkley in the Yorkshire Dales to Bowness-On-Windermere, the Royal Oak Inn is very popular with walkers and welcomes muddy boots. A traditional pub with rooms, the inn serves a good selection of real ale whilst food is available all day.
Just a short walk from the Bowness Bay pier, this large inn has a bar, lounge room, dining room, and a separate games room with a pool table and a darts board. The pub’s cosy fire and exposed beams create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Food & Drink
The Royal Oak has six well kept cask ales available at any given time. The selection changes regularly, with local favourites from the Bowness Bay Brewing company served alongside ales from other Cumbrian breweries and independent breweries from across the UK. The wine offers something to suit most tastes and there is a good selection of gins that is regularly added to. The well stocked bar also offers a range of draught beers, spirits, and soft drinks.
Food is served throughout the day and the menu is updated according to the season. You will find the usual pub classics here, including burgers, steak, pie, fish & chips, and gammon, plus there is a popular all day breakfast choice that includes black pudding and hash browns. Between noon and 5pm, the pub also offers a range of sandwiches, making it ideal for those seeking something lighter at lunch time. The Royal Oak is family friendly and has a good number of choices for children with the option to change the sides if preferred.
Other Features
The pub has a separate room with a pool table, darts board, games machine, and a television that is often used to screen the free to air sporting events, such as the FIFA World Cup and the Rugby Six Nations. Dogs are welcome in the bar area and outside where you will find a small number of picnic benches looking out onto the road.
Accommodation
The Royal Oak is home to eight guestrooms that offer good value for money in this popular tourist hotspot. Whilst many of the rooms have their own en-suite bathrooms, some rooms do share private bathrooms, with robes, toiletries, and towels provided in the bedrooms.
All rooms benefit from televisions and tea and coffee making facilities. A cooked breakfast is included in the room rate and served between 9am and 10am. The bar does not have late opening hours ensuring that guests get a good night of sleep.
