The Old John Peel Inn (Bowness-On-Windermere)

Rustic and charming, the Old John Peel Inn is a traditionally styled pub in the heart of Bowness-On-Windermere. Family friendly, the pub is across the road from the famous World of Beatrix Potter attraction that is a firm favourite of children.

Inside this quiet but welcoming pub you won’t find loud television screens, but you will find reasonably priced classic pub grub and good selection of real ale. The inn is popular with visiting tourists and hosts weekly quiz nights and occasional live music evenings.

Food & Drink

The Old John Peel Inn has a small selection of cask ales with one regular ale being provided by the Theakston brewery and two additional pumps that are used for a changing selection of ales sourced from breweries across the north of England. There is a good choice of draught beers and ciders. There is a respectable selection of wines, including a delightful mulled wine during the winter months and for gin lovers there is a dedicated menu that includes some locally distilled brands.

Food is served daily at the Old John Peel Inn between noon and 9pm. The menu is fairly extensive with a good choice of lighter options, including filled rolls and jacket potatoes. All of the pub favourites are featured on the menu including sausage & mash, lasagne, and fish & chips. There is a burger menu, a steak menu, and children are well served with a dedicated fixed price menu that includes dessert.

Other Features

The pub hosts a weekly quiz night on a Wednesday evening, put together by some of the local residents who are regulars to the pub. It is a chance for visitors to the area to have their knowledge put to the test by “the locals.” It’s free to enter with a bottle of wine given as a prize.

The pub has regular live music events throughout the year. The Old John Peel Inn has a function room that is available to hire, and outside there is a small patio with tables and chairs. This pub is dog friendly with dog treats available for well-behaved pups.
