The Ship Inn & Quayside Sports Bar (Bowness-On-Windermere)

Superbly located on the shore of Lake Windermere with a beer garden that overlooks the lake, the Ship Inn in Bowness-On-Windermere is part of a large and lively venue that also includes the Quayside Sports bar downstairs and the Wheelhouse Nightclub upstairs. The complex was built in 1981 and is now on of the town’s most popular venues for an evening out, offering real ale, good food, sports screenings and regular live music events.

Food & Drink

Food is served throughout the day at the Ship Inn from noon, and it can be enjoyed in the large, relaxing bar and restaurant area that can seat up to 100 people, or on the terrace outside overlooking the lake. The menu is fairly extensive with something to suit most tastes, including a choice of classic pub dishes, pasta dishes, fish, steaks, salads, and pizzas. There are a good number of options for vegetarians and gluten free diets can be catered for.
The pub also welcomes children with a menu that has eight different options covering all the usual favourites. The bar has two real ales on tap, one supplied by Cockermouth brewery Jennings and the other supplied by Theakstons. There is a good choice of draught lagers, beers, and ciders, and a fairly reasonable selection of wines, spirits, and soft drinks.

The Ship Inn has a television at one end of the pub that screens sporting events. Outside, you will find a large terrace with a good number of tables for dining – part of which is covered. The terrace looks out across Lake Windermere and you can watch the passing boats as you dine.
The Ship Inn is housed within a three-storey complex that is all under the same ownership. Below the Ship you will find the Quayside Sports Bar. Along with its own bar, Quayside has a giant drop down screen and subscriptions to BT Sports, ESPN, and Sky Sports, making this the premier choice in Bowness-On-Windermere for catching up with all the sporting action. The Quayside Sports Bar also has a pool table and other pub games, as well as an outdoor seating area on the lake shore.
The Wheelhouse Club & Lounge Bar is located above the Ship Inn. It opens at 11pm when the Ship closes and has a large dance floor, sound system, and resident DJs. The Ship Inn welcomes dogs into one section of the pub where there are tables available for dining. Dogs can also join their owners on the outdoor terrace.
