Without a doubt the most famous place within the Lake District National Park, Windermere, including the smaller town of Bowness-on-Windermere, is the absolute perfect base for your getaway holiday. Within the two towns, there are plenty of shops, pubs, restaurants and attractions with the famous Lake Windermere taking centre stage as England's largest lake. With lake cruises, a famous railway, Beatrix Potter's former home, there is no end of things to do in this particular area.
Accommodation in Windermere is in the plenty, however, as the most well-known location within the Lake District, hotels are never at the cheaper end and it's advisable to book early in the busy seasons given its tremendous popularity.
