The Windermere
In 1847, driven by the Lake District’s increasing popularity as a tourist destination, the Windermere branch railway line between Oxenholme and Windermere opened. A month later, the Windermere hotel opened a few metres away, built to capitalise on the increased tourist trade the railway would bring.
The days when most visitors arrive at Windermere by train have long passed, but the Windermere hotel still stands, and brims with heritage charm. The hotel offers good value for money accommodation with all the standard amenities and is just minutes from Windermere’s shops. A walk to the pier for the Windermere Lakes Cruises at Bowness-On-Windermere from the hotel would take around half an hour.

However, many rooms are enhanced by period features, such as sash windows and high ceilings. Each room is equipped with a television, desk, hairdryer, complimentary toiletries, tea and coffee making facilities, and free Wi-Fi.
In addition, each room is equipped with a safe and keys are provided for an additional charge of £1 per day. Standard single, double, twin, and family (with two double beds) rooms are available. Alternatively, guests can opt for larger Superior rooms with scenic views and upgraded amenities, or Premier rooms with four-poster beds, a comfortable seating area and even more space.
Restaurants & Bars
The sophisticated dining room is adorned with carved wooden panelling and large windows that give views across the town and towards the lake. A self service breakfast buffet is provided each morning with a full range of hot and cold items. In the evenings, the restaurant serves contemporary British favourite main meals, as well as lighter options, such as sandwiches. There is a small lounge bar that serves a good range of wines, bottled beers, and spirits as well as snacks.
Additional Facilities & Services
The hotel has a board room available to hire for corporate events. The restaurant and bar / lounge can also be hired for private events, including weddings.
