Clarence House

For a warm welcome and accommodation that offers good value for money, look no further than at Clarence House. This family run B&B has just five bedrooms, so you won’t feel over-crowded. This former Victorian residence was built in 1892 in the Lakeland slate and stone that is typical of the area. The B&B is located on a quiet residential street, but don’t let that put you off as the centre of Keswick is within a five-minute walk.

A walk to the shore of Derwent Water will take you approximately 15-minutes. There are several popular attractions in the vicinity including the Theatre by the Lake, the Lingholm Kitchen & Walled Garden, the Lakes Distillery, and Keswick’s famous Pencil Museum.

Accommodation

Each of the five bedrooms in Clarence House have been refurbished and modernised to provide guests with an excellent level of comfort. Rooms have a country chic style of décor that results in a welcoming, home from home atmosphere, and they benefit from period features, such as high ceilings and large windows. All of the rooms have en-suite facilities and a small selection of complimentary toiletries.

In addition, despite this being a B&B rather than a hotel, rooms are superbly appointed with amenities that include free Wi-Fi, Egyptian cotton sheets, flat screen televisions, iPod docking stations, and a hospitality tray that includes tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, and bottled water. All rooms are double or twin, and it’s worth noting that this accommodation does not accept children under 14 years old.

Restaurants & Bars

Clarence House is a B&B and it therefore does not have a restaurant or bar. However, Keswick is brimming with excellent places to eat and drink, and the proprietors are very knowledgeable of the area and happy to provide advice if required.

Breakfast is served to guests each morning in the light dining room between 8.15am and 9am. A self-service breakfast bar is stocked with fruit juices, yogurts, cereals, and fresh fruit salads. Cooked items are available to order and include a full English breakfast or lighter options, such as muffins with eggs and smoked salmon.
