Tucked away in the quiet and picturesque village of Wetheral, the Crown Hotel is a hidden gem. The village of Wetheral lies four miles south of Carlisle city centre, where you will find a number of attractions including Carlisle Castle and Carlisle Cathedral. From the hotel, it is approximately a 40-minute drive to Pooley Bridge, where you can hop aboard an Ullswater Steamer. The hotel is also ideally placed for those who wish to explore the wider northern area, including Hadrian’s Wall.

Accommodation

The Crown Hotel has 51 rooms, all of which are delightfully decorated and include en-suite facilities. All rooms have an excellent selection of amenities as standard, including:

Classic rooms are available as either single, twin, double, triple or family accommodation, with family rooms comprising of a double bed and bunkbeds. These rooms include additional amenities, such as enhanced toiletries, bathrobes, complimentary bottled water and chocolate, and a DVD player. Four-poster rooms offer a romantic experience in a traditional styled room. Executive rooms have seating areas, balconies, and docking stations. Superior Double rooms benefit from hot tubs and smart televisions.

The hotel also has two suites, both of which are very spacious with large lounge areas. Both suites have 3D smart televisions, a fridge with various supplies, and a coffee machine. Both suites are also fitted with whirlpool baths in the en-suite bathroom.

Alternatively, you may wish to combine the best of self-catering accommodation and hotel accommodation, and stay in one of two apartments housed in a cottage in the grounds of the hotel. Both apartments feature a lounge with a sofabed, dining area, and fully equipped separate kitchen. One apartment has one double room, the second apartment has a double room and a twin room. Both apartments are available either as short or long term lets and guests can opt for self-catering or packages that include dining within the hotel.

Restaurants & Bars

The Conservatory Restaurant at the Crown Hotel Wetheral has been awarded an AA rosette for its fine food and exemplary service. The restaurant overlooks the hotel’s delightful landscaped gardens, creating a soothing atmosphere. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and evening meals, and the menu has a mixture of internationally inspired dishes.

Alternatively, guests of the Crown Hotel can enjoy an authentic village pub experience at Walton’s Bar. Popular with local residents, the bar serves food all day, with a mixture of snacks, light lunches, and substantial main meals available. The bar also offers a selection of real ales and CAMRA members can get a 10% discount on some brews.
