Offering boutique style accommodation without the over-inflated prices, the Foundry 34 is an independent hotel and restaurant that is conveniently located in the centre of Penrith. The hotel offers 10 stylish and modern rooms along with an award winning restaurant. As this is a town centre hotel, there is no parking, but guests can park for up to one-hour on the street outside of the hotel for unloading, before moving to a nearby public car park that will cost just under £5 per day. The hotel’s owners also advise that due to the town centre location noise can be a factor, especially at the weekend late at night.

Foundry 34 is a great hotel for those seeking to explore the Lake District on a budget. The hotel is close to the train station, and a number of bus services run from the town centre to various points of interest, including to Glenridding and Pooley Bridge for Ullswater and Keswick for Derwent Water. Penrith and the surrounding area is rich in medieval history with Brougham Castle ruins within walking distance of the hotel.

Accommodation

Foundry 34 has 10 modern rooms that have been carefully designed to create a chic yet relaxed atmosphere, with some rooms brand new at the end of 2016. Standard Single, Double, and Twin / King rooms are available, all furnished in a modern, yet simple style. All rooms benefit from en-suite bathrooms with rainforest showers and a limited selection of toiletries.

In addition, all rooms are fitted with Egyptian cotton bedding with a choice of pillows, flat screen LCD smart televisions, tea and coffee making facilities, ironing facilities, hair dryer, free Wi-Fi and a LAN connection. It’s worth noting that not all standard rooms have a desk. The newer rooms are in the Deluxe category and benefit from improved amenities, such as sprung pillow mattresses. This category also includes the hotel’s family room that has a twin / king bed and a foldaway bunk bed.

Restaurants & Bars

The restaurant at Foundry 34 has won numerous awards for its cuisine, all served in a recently refurbished restaurant that has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Ingredients are locally sourced where possible, and there is an emphasis on home-made and fresh food. The internationally inspired menu has something to suit everyone’s tastes. There are lighter options available at lunch time, including takeaway lunch boxes that are ideal for guests who want to take a packed lunch up to the fells. In addition, there are good choices for children. For hotel guests, a cooked breakfast is prepared to order each morning between 7am and 9am during the week and between 8am and 10am at weekends.

The restaurant has a sophisticated lounge bar that serves a great selection of wines, cocktails, and local beers. The bar hosts live music every weekend.
