The Fisherbeck is a bed and breakfast style accommodation that goes the extra mile. Located in the southern outskirts of Ambleside close to Lake Windermere, this welcoming B&B has been operated by the same family for over 30 years. This experience has resulted in great attention to detail that enhances the overall guest experience.

Part of the Fisherbeck dates back to the first half of the 17th century, with further extensions added during the Victorian era. As a result, this is a quirky building oozing with character. The B&B is a 5-minute walk from the centre of Ambleside and a 10-minute walk from the launch point for the Windermere Lakes Cruises. Nearby attractions include Wray Castle, the Armitt Museum, and Brockhole.

Accommodation

Each one of the 18 rooms at the Fisherbeck have been individually styled, many with an elegant floral theme. All rooms have en-suite facilities, some with walk-in showers, others with baths (including some spa baths) either with a shower over the bath or a separate walk-in shower. Therefore, if you have a particular request for a type of bathroom, it is worth contacting the hotel in advance of your booking. Single, twin, double, and family rooms with one double and one single are available.

The rooms are very well appointed with luxury free toiletries, heated towel rails, underfloor heating, a hospitality tray that includes biscuits and bottled water, Sealy beds with Egyptian cotton linen, hairdryers, flat screen televisions, and free Wi-Fi. In addition, there are some rooms that have balconies with outdoor seating. It is worth noting that there is no lift in this building, but ground floor rooms are available.

If you prefer self-catered accommodation, the Fisherbeck has a ground floor apartment, Woodside, available to let on a self-catered basis. The apartment is equipped with a master king bedroom with an en-suite, a second twin bedroom, separate bathroom, and an open plan lounge, kitchen and dining area.

Restaurants & Bars

Breakfast is a feast at the Fisherbeck with four-courses on offer, starting with a drink of your choice (including Bucks Fizz) followed by cereals, fruits, or yogurts, and then the main cooked course with items prepared to order. All finished off with a round of toast. The hotel prides itself on using the best locally sourced ingredients with bread provided by a local artisan bakery, coffee roasted in Kendal, fish smoked near Lancaster, and so on.

Most bed and breakfast style hotels do not offer food during the day, however, the Fisherbeck is an exception to this norm with their Light Bite Menu available between 10am and 9pm each day. The menu comprises of sandwiches and other snacks, and room service is available if you prefer. For those who would like something sweet, a great selection of cakes and puddings are available, as well as an extensive hot drinks menu.

There is a fully licensed bar and lounge at Fisherbeck, serving a selection of bottled (including locally brewed) beers, whiskies, spirits and liqueurs.

Additional Facilities & Services

The Fisherbeck has an agreement with a local spa hotel to give guests of the B&B complimentary access to the facilities there. These include a pool, gym, sauna, steam room, and Jacuzzi. This hotel is approximately 10-minutes from the Fisherbeck by foot.

For a small additional charge, laundry services can be provided. There is also a drying room for outdoor equipment and secure cycle storage.
