Swinside Inn
Is this the pub with the best view in the UK? The owners of the Swinside Inn certainly think so, and upon arrival it’s hard to disagree. The pub is located in the beautiful Newlands Valley. On one side of the valley, the iconic Cat Bells beckons to be summoned, whilst on the other side the instantly recognisable peak of Causey Pike stands proud.
This is a classic British Inn, having provided respite and ale since the 17th century. In recent years, it became abandoned until it was taken over by the current owners in 2013, who have since overseen an extensive refurbishment programme. Today, the inn is very popular with walkers, and in 2016, it was a runner up in the UK Great Outdoors Walkers Pub of the Year Award.

All of the rooms also have their own private en-suite facilities with complimentary toiletries and are tastefully decorated in a classic style. Three of the rooms boast of extraordinary views, and are named after the mountains that you can see from their respective windows: Cat Bells, Causey Pike, and Barrow. Double and twin options are available.
In addition, the Dalehead Room has been designed with families in mind. There is a double bed (with the option to have twin beds instead) and adult sized bunkbeds. The room benefits from additional soundproofing to help children to sleep. It is also worth noting that some rooms are above the bar, and noise in the evenings in those room is to be expected. Furthermore, all rooms are upstairs, and due to the historic nature of the building there is no lift available.

It is one of the biggest fireworks displays in the area, and attracts several hundred spectators. There is a BBQ held in a large marquee where beers are available to buy, and the bar is open as usual.
