The Glenridding Hotel Outside

'Resilient' is probably the best word to sum up the owners of the newly reopened Glenridding Hotel. In December 2015 the relentless winds and rain of Storm Desmond saw a landslide come hurtling down the mountainside into the village of Glenridding, with the Glenridding Hotel being hit particularly hard by the falling boulders and flood waters. The hotel and surrounding village was flooded a further three times in the days and weeks that followed, and yet, just one year later, the owners proudly reopened the hotel doors to guests once more.

The Glenridding Hotel now has a newly refurbished ground floor, whilst most of the bedrooms on the upper floors had already been refurbished before the floods occurred. The hotel is just a few minutes’ walk from the lakeshore, and the jetty for the Ullswater Steamers. Popular walks in the area include Helvellyn and Aira Force. The hotel is also a few minutes’ drive from the start of the Kirkstone Pass, where you will find spectacular views and the notorious “Struggle” road.

Restaurants & Bars

The Garden Room is the hotel’s luxurious restaurant. It is open every evening with an a la carte menu that uses many locally sourced ingredients. Children are welcome but there is a request for diners to not wear walking boots. The restaurant is open to hotel residents and non-residents alike.

For a more informal experience, guests can dine in the Beckside Bar which is also open to non-residents. The bar has been completely rebuilt following the floods, and is now named after the local construction firm who came to rescue villagers when emergency services were unable to access Glenridding. The menu is typical pub style fare with dishes using the best of local produce. A children’s menu is also available with pick and mix menu options. The pub also has an extensive selection of local ales, wines, and spirits.

Let It Brew is the hotel’s café, serving a delightful selection of hot drinks, cakes, and ice cream. It is a popular place for walkers to refuel after a long fell walk. In the evenings, the lounge bar is open exclusively for hotel residents and has an extensive selection of single malts and fine wines.

Additional Facilities & Services

The hotel has a four-lane swimming pool that is exclusively available for hotel residents. At one side of the pool there is separate toddler pool, and after a swim guests can relax in the sauna. There is no spa on site, but the hotel does have an agreement with a holistic therapist who offers pampering treatments from her farm in Patterdale, a mile from the hotel. Hotel guests receive a 10% discounts on treatments here.

In the Campbell Library, guests can relax with a book, or play table tennis and snooker. The hotel has conference and event facilities, and holds a civil wedding licence.
