The Sun Inn, Newton Reigny
The Sun Inn is a traditional 17th century coaching inn that has been refurbished to suit the needs of 20th century travellers. Located just five-minutes from junction 41 of the M6, the inn is a popular stopping point for travellers making the long journey from southern England to Scotland. It is also on the Coast 2 Coast cycle challenge and ideally placed as a first night accommodation for those beginning the challenge in West Cumbria. The inn has transferred ownership in recent years, and the new owners have refurbished the pub and added the guest accommodation, with fabulous attention to detail.
The inn is situated in Newton Reigny, a tiny and idyllic hamlet brimming with northern Georgian charm. Newton Reigny is a 10-minute drive from Penrith, and a 15-minute drive from Pooley Bridge for Ullswater. Nearby attractions include: Dalemain House & Gardens, Lowther Castle, and the Rheged Centre.

Restaurants & Bars
The Sun Inn is a traditional style English pub and serves a menu packed with classic favourites in a bright dining room that has recently been refurbished. However, you will also find some more unusual items here, such as the Waygu beef burger. The specials board changes regularly and makes the most of seasonal and local ingredients. Main meals are available each evening between 6pm and 9pm on weekdays and all day from noon at weekends. A snack menu is available all day every day and on Sundays there is a full roast dinner available. For guests, a full Cumbrian breakfast is served each morning that will certainly fuel you for the day.
At the bar, you will find a good selection of locally brewed ales, including one brewed exclusively for the pub by the Brack ‘n’ Brew brewery by Ullswater. A number of wines, spirits, and soft drinks are also served. If you prefer, you can take your drink and meal outside to the pub’s large beer garden that is adjacent to the River Petteril.
