Grey Walls

Elleray Road, Windermere, LA23 1AG
Grey Walls Outside

Low cost accommodation is hard to come by in Windermere, so travellers on a budget will want to take a closer look at the Grey Walls. Housed in a building made from traditional Lakeland slate, the Grey Walls is a popular pub with a small selection of bed and breakfast style accommodation.

The inn is located on the edge of Windermere’s shopping centre, where you will find an excellent choice of independent gift shops and restaurants. The inn is just a few minutes’ walk from Windermere train station, whilst a walk to the launch point for the Windermere Lakes Cruises would take around half an hour. Other nearby attractions include Orrest Head, Brockhole, and the World of Beatrix Potter.

Accommodation

The Grey Walls has nine en-suite rooms, all of which have been individually styled using richly coloured fabrics. This is budget accommodation, so you won’t find rooms brimming with luxurious extras and it’s worth noting that because the rooms are located above the pub some noise is to be anticipated. Furthermore, due to the historic nature of the building, there is no lift access and accommodation is accessed via a set of stairs.

A range of rooms are available, including single, twin, double, triple (one double and one single), and family (one double and one bunkbed). All rooms have bathroom facilities with either a walk-in shower or a shower over bath, with a small selection of toiletries provided. In the bedroom, guests will find a television and a hospitality tray with tea and coffee. Free Wi-Fi is also available.

Restaurants & Bars

The ground floor of the inn is home to a traditional Lake District pub, the Greys Inn. A full cooked breakfast is available for guests each morning, with a small selection of cereals and toast for those who prefer something lighter. From midday until 9pm, classic pub grub is available with all the favourites, including fish and chips and burgers.

The pub is a freehouse and therefore able to offer a good selection of cask ales, draught and bottled beers, and ciders from various brewers, including the “Grey Walls” brew that is made especially for the pub and guest ales. There is a games room and regular events including live music and a quiz night.
