Rooms at the Apple Pie

Located in the centre of Ambleside, Rooms at the Apple Pie is a guest house that strives to provide boutique accommodation at an affordable price. This is a family run business, that started in 1975 with the opening of the Apple Pie café by David Fielding and his mother. Forty years on and the business is still thriving, now managed by David’s children. The guest rooms were a much later addition to the business, occupying a building adjacent to the café and bakery, and have since been rated by a national newspaper as one of the top guest houses in the area.

The Apple Pie is a great base for exploring the Lake District. From here it is a 20-minute walk to the landing stages for the Windermere Lakes Cruises. Hop aboard a cruise and you can visit various attractions including Wray Castle, Brockhole, and the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway. Additionally, Derwent Water, Coniston Water, and Ullswater are all within a 30-minute drive.

Accommodation

There are just eight rooms at the Apple Pie, all immaculately presented in a modern, chic, style that does not detract from the period features of this traditional Lakeland property. There are two large rooms on the ground floor with king sized beds and room for an additional folding bed or cot. On the middle floor there are two doubles and two king rooms. The top floor has two rooms with a shared landing. They are in the attic of the building, so feature sloped ceilings with skylights and limited headroom in places. Both are twin rooms.

Despite the moderate price range of the rooms, they packed with fabulous amenities. Guests can expect to find:

In addition, there is a generous hospitality tray with tea, fresh coffee, and freshly baked gingerbread. In the reception area, there is a fridge stocked with fresh milk that guests can help themselves to. Bottle openers and glasses are also provided.

Restaurants & Bars

The room rate does not include breakfast but all guests receive a 10% discount on everything in the Apple Pie Bakery and Café. A packed breakfast menu includes cereals, pastries, cooked breakfasts, including vegetarian versions, avocado on sourdough, and more. During the day, the café serves pastries, pies, sandwiches, salads, and more. For evening meals and entertainment, Ambleside is packed with restaurants and pubs to suit all tastes.

Additional Facilities & Services

Secure cycle storage and a drying room for wet outdoor equipment is available. Babysitting services can also be provided for an additional charge.
