The Royal Hotel, Barrow

If you need a bed for the night and are not too concerned about location but do want something that is low cost, then the Royal Hotel in Barrow could be a possibility. This hotel and pub is located on Barrow Island, which lies south of the town centre of Barrow, and is adjacent to the larger Walney Island where there are two nature reserves. The hotel is just a few minutes away from BAE systems and is a popular choice for workers visiting their Barrow operations.

From the hotel, it is approximately a 30-minute drive to the southern Lake District, where you will find Coniston Water and Lake Windermere. The South Lakes Safari Zoo is a 20-minute drive away, and other nearby attractions include Furness Abbey, and Piel Island. It’s worth noting that the hotel is in a residential area with parking permits in operation, and has no parking of its own.

Accommodation

The Royal Hotel has 25 rooms in total, all benefiting from en-suite bathroom facilities. A recent refurbishment programme has resulted in new décor and furnishings for many of the rooms. This is a very basic hotel, so you won’t find many extras here. Single, double, and twin rooms are available, all fitted with televisions and a desk. There are two family rooms that can sleep up to four people with one double bed and one double sofa bed. It is worth noting that all of the rooms are above the ground level and there are no lift facilities.

Restaurant & Bars

The Royal Hotel has a pub on the ground floor, recently refurbished, that is a very popular meeting point for local residents. The pub is open daily from noon until midnight. Breakfast for hotel residents is served between 7am and 9am on weekdays and between 7.30am and 9.30am at weekends. Evening meals are served Mondays through Saturdays, with the menu consisting of standard pub fare. On Sundays, a traditional roast dinner is available between noon and 4pm. The bar has a pool table and games machine, and regularly shows live sporting events on a large flat screen television.

The Royal Hotel has two function rooms that are available to hire, suitable for parties, wedding receptions, or business meetings. Catering can be arranged.
