Located north of Windermere town centre, Windermere Manor Hotel is a large hotel that has the additional benefit of a swimming pool. Until November 2017, the Windermere Manor Hotel was owned and operated by the charity Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) under its Vision Hotels brand. It was purchased by a leading UK hotel operator and in 2018 guests can expect significant renovations.

However, the new owners have pledged that they will retain all of the existing features that serve to aid those with sight loss, such as braille menus and talking clocks. The hotel is within easy reach of a number attractions and popular walking routes, including the Windermere Lakes Cruises, Brockhole, and Orrest Head.

The Windermere Manor Hotel has 35 en-suite rooms in total, with 28 being located in the main house and an additional seven rooms located in a modern annex. The property was originally built in the 1850s as a holiday home for the wealthy Coutts family, and as such, many rooms benefit from period features, such as high ceilings and sash windows. Rooms are tastefully decorated in a classic style.

There are a mixture of double, twin, single, and family standard rooms, as well as superior doubles that include a private patio and one four-poster bedroom for an extra special occasion. In-room amenities include televisions with audio description, “Easy to See” telephones, “Easy to See” alarm clocks, and a CD player. Each room has an en-suite bathroom with complimentary toiletries and additional accessible features, such as grab rails and shower chair access. The hotel does have complimentary Wi-Fi, but due to the historic nature of the building, a signal in the guestrooms is not guaranteed.

The hotel has a restaurant that is open for breakfast, lunch, and evening meals. For breakfast, a self-service buffet is available with a range of hot and cold items. In the evenings, there is a set price menu with the option to choose one, two, or three courses, and pre-booking a table is essential. The hotel’s bar also serves a limited selection of classic bar food and stocks a variety of alcoholic beverages.

The Windermere Manor Hotel benefits from an indoor heated swimming pool and a sauna. The hotel also has a number of features that are designed to aid those with sight loss. For example, tourist information leaflets can be provided in large print or braille. The pool has additional grab rails and is attended by a lifeguard during the day.
