The Trout Hotel

3 Crown Street, Cockermouth, CA13 0EJ
The Trout Hotel Outside

Originally built in 1670, the Trout Hotel was formerly a private residence that belonged to the Egremont estate. It became a hotel in 1934, and was later renamed in recognition of the popularity of trout fishing in the river Derwent that is located behind the hotel. A favourite of Bing Crosby, the hotel has twice suffered devastating flooding in recent years, and following the most recent event in 2015, the hotel has undergone a significant refurbishment programme.

The hotel is located in the centre of Cockermouth, a small town on western edge of the Lake District, and is adjacent to Wordsworth House, the birth place of William Wordsworth and now a National Trust property. The hotel is ideally located for exploring the northwestern Lake District. Buttermere is a 30-minute drive, both Lake Bassenthwaite and Whinlatter Forest are a 20-minute drive, whilst the popular start point for ascending Skiddaw is a mere 30-minute drive away.
