Keswick Country House Hotel

Counting Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth II and Lord and Lady Churchill amongst its former visitors and residents, the Keswick Country House Hotel certainly has a long history of providing quality accommodation to discerning guests. The hotel is located on the edge of Keswick’s town centre and was originally built in 1869 adjacent to the railway station to serve the area’s burgeoning tourist industry. The railway line was closed in the 1970s and the former station was renovated and incorporated into the hotel. Today, the former railway line is a popular walking route, and starting point for an ascent up Latrigg – a low level fell that is ideal for a first fell walk.

The hotel is a five-minute walk from Keswick’s town centre, the leisure centre, and Fitz Park. A walk to Derwent Water from the hotel will take approximately 15-minutes. A number of attractions are within a 20-minute drive of the hotel, including the Lakes Distillery, the Lake District Wildlife Park, and the Keswick Climbing Wall. Popular walking routes in the area include Skiddaw, Cat Bells, and Castle Crag.

Accommodation

The Keswick Country House Hotel has 74 rooms in total with a range of options to choose from. Rooms are tastefully decorated in an elegant and understated style and many rooms offer views either of the hotel’s extensive gardens or of the surrounding fells. All rooms have en-suite bathroom facilities but it is worth noting that only liquid soap is supplied so you will need to bring your own toiletries. All rooms also include free Wi-Fi, tea and coffee making facilities, and flat screen televisions. Standard double, twin, and family rooms (sleeping up to four people) are available, or you can opt for one of the superior standard of rooms that have additional benefits, such as better views, more space, king sized beds, and a welcome tray with complimentary chocolates and mineral water.

Restaurants & Bars

A fine dining experience awaits at the Keswick Country House Hotel where in the Lonsdale Restaurant guests can enjoy freshly prepared food using quality ingredients. The restaurant is open in the evenings with a menu that changes daily. There is a good selection of dishes available, including classic British favourites and internationally inspired cuisine. For hotel residents, breakfast is also served in the Lonsdale Restaurant with a buffet style service. All the classic options for a full cooked breakfast are available, as well as additional items, such as cereals, fruits, yoghurt, croissants and pastries, toast, fruit juice and hot beverages.

The hotel’s lounge bar has recently had a full refurbishment and is now a stylish and elegant place to relax with chic and timeless décor. The bar is open throughout the day serving beverages including barista style coffee, speciality gins, cocktails, wines, and more. A lunch menu is in operation here with sandwiches, salads, and burgers available.
