The Sun Inn Ulverston

Market Street, Ulverston, LA12 7AY
The Sun Inn Ulverston Outside

The Sun Inn is a very popular and lively pub in the centre of Ulverston. The pub, a Grade II listed former coaching inn, underwent a full refurbishment in early 2016, resulting in a tasteful update to the décor throughout the building, including the guestrooms. The hotel is less than a three-mile walk from Ulverston’s Laurel and Hardy Museum and its principle arts and entertainment venue, Coronation Hall. Ulverston is a 15-minute drive from Lake Windermere, and 40-minutes from the M6.

There are a couple of points to consider when choosing this inn. Firstly, children are not permitted to stay in the rooms. Secondly, there is a nightclub in the basement of the building and regular live music events in the bar. This pub would therefore most likely appeal to younger adults seeking somewhere with a vibrant night life that offers great value for money.

Accommodation

There are 20 rooms at the Sun Inn. All of the rooms were newly refurbished in 2016 and are now fitted with simple, clean décor. The rooms may be available for budget rates but they still benefit from an excellent selection of amenities, including free Wi-Fi, flat screen televisions with digital channels, and tea and coffee making facilities.

In addition, all rooms have en-suite bathrooms and complimentary toiletries are provided. Room categories include standard double, budget double (directly above the bar), twin (2 x single beds), and twin double (2 x double beds). There are also “family rooms” with a double and two singles, though as children are not permitted to stay, these rooms would suit groups travelling together. In recognition of noise from the bars possibly being a factor during your stay, guests are provided with free ear plugs.

Restaurants & Bars

The Sun Inn pub is a very popular place amongst locals and visitors seeking an appetising evening meal. It is therefore advisable to book a table in advance. This is gastro-pub style dining, with food presented on wooden boards or slate, using the best of seasonal produce. The menu is extensive, with tapas, classic favourites, steaks, fish, and “build your own” burgers. Children are welcome in the pub and there is a great selection of children’s favourites for under 14s. Between 12noon and 3pm, hot and cold sandwiches and ciabattas are served. A cooked breakfast is available for hotel guests.

The bar is open every day from 10am with teas, coffees, and snacks available alongside an excellent selection of alcoholic beverages including local cask ales. The Sun Inn also has its own Gin and Tonic menu that has been designed by FeverTree. In the basement, there is an additional bar / nightclub with a DJ. Local music acts regularly play here.
