Gym

Cockermouth Leisure Centre Gym

The gym at Cockermouth Leisure Centre was completely refurbished in 2014 as part of a programme to improve fitness facilities across the county. There are two separate rooms, both spacious, with a total of 39 stations between them. The cardiovascular room includes state of the art equipment with personal entertainment systems that include web access, whilst in the second room you will find a great selection of resistance machines and free weights, mats, and exercise balls.

Fitness instructors are available at all times, and “Refocus” sessions are provided, where an instructor will give you tips and information on how to stay motivated and help you to design a fitness plan that works for you. The gym is open for members and non-members alike, with prices for non-members starting at £4.75 per session.

Fitness Classes

Cockermouth Leisure Centre has two studios. The main studio can hold up to 30 people and classes are held throughout the day, everyday. Classes include yoga, core stability, step aerobics, Pilates, Zumba, Boxfit, and total body conditioning. The second studio is equipped with a collection of exercise bikes for spinning classes. Classes can be accessed on a one-off basis but must be booked in advance, and cost £4.40 per class.

Swimming Pools

Cockermouth Leisure Centre Pool

Cockermouth Leisure Centre has a four-lane 25m long pool. The temperature of the pool is better suited for those swimming for fitness, but sessions are available for those preferring a leisurely swim. The pool follows a weekly timetable, with hourly sessions each day for general swimming, adult only swimming, swimming lessons for both children and adults, fitness swimming, over 50s swimming, and aquacise classes. It is best to check in advance of your visit to be guaranteed a space. A session costs £3.40 for non-members.

Sports

Cockermouth Leisure Centre has a large sports hall that is available to book. The hall is equipped for badminton, five-a-side football, and table tennis. You need to book in advance of your visit.

Climbing Wall

Climbing is a popular activity in the Lake District, and therefore Cockermouth Leisure Centre, like several others in the area, is equipped with an indoor climbing wall. The wall is up to 7m high in places, and it can be used either on a casual basis, or as part of a course. Children aged 5 and above can climb, but an adult must supervise anyone under the age of 16. Pre-booking is essential.

Features for Kids

The centre offers a number of classes and courses to help get children active. There are swimming lessons available for all ages, and the centre has teamed up with a local sports coaching enterprise to provide football coaching in the hall each Saturday. The centre also offers a junior gym membership for children aged between 11 and 15. Furthermore, you can hire the pool, hall, or climbing wall for a birthday party, complete with instructors and a party room for food.
