Ulverston Leisure Centre Gym

In 2014, the gym at Ulverston Leisure Centre was expanded, doubling its previous size, and completely refurbished. You will find everything you need here to complete your fitness routine. There are 36 stations with a good mixture of cardiovascular and resistance training equipment, as well as a free weights area. All new users of the gym must have an induction before they can use the equipment, costing £18.55. During this session, you will receive tips and ideas to help you achieve your goals. You must also sign up as a “Pay and Play” member, which incurs a small administrative charge and entitles you to discounts across the leisure centre, before using the gym. Thereafter sessions cost £5.25.

The centre works in partnership with a local personal training company to provide personal training sessions that are tailored to suit your needs, regardless of your age, ability, or fitness experience.

Fitness Classes

Ulverston Leisure Centre does not have a dedicated studio for fitness classes. However, classes are available on a daily basis, and these are held either in the gym, in the tennis centre, or at alternative venues in Ulverston town centre, including halls at schools and churches. Therefore it is best to confirm in advance the location of any class you wish to attend. Classes include dance aerobics, circuits, boxfit, spinning, yoga, pilates, and Zumba. Furthermore, water based fitness classes are held in the pool. Fitness classes cost £5.85 for non-members and are open for attendance on an ad hoc basis, but you must book in advance to be guaranteed a place.

Swimming Pools

Ulverston Leisure Centre Pool

Ulverston Leisure Centre has a 25m long four-lane swimming pool with ultra violet cleaning technology, giving you added peace of mind. The pool is housed in a hall with large windows along one side giving you views out towards the Cumbrian fells.

There are swimming lessons available here for all ages, so whether you are a parent looking for lessons for your pre-school child, or an adult who has previously not had the opportunity to learn, you can be accommodated here. Along with dedicated sessions for swimming lessons, the pool’s timetable includes family fun swimming, adult only swimming, lane swimming, general swimming, and swimming for the over 50s.

The centre has a number of facilities that are available either to hire privately or to attend for lessons and taster sessions in a range of sports.

Tennis Centre

Ulverston Leisure Centre is the perfect place to play tennis, whether you are a beginner just starting out, or an expert looking for a workout. The centre has nine tennis courts in total. There are four indoor acrylic courts housed in a modern building that are filled with natural light. There are three outdoor polymeric (rubber compound) courts, and two outdoor courts with synthetic grass and floodlighting, enabling play to continue all year round.

You can book a court, and this will cost between £6 and £23 depending on time of day, the court you use, and how many people are playing. Alternatively, you can sign up for tennis lessons, which are available to children aged 3 and over, costing between £6 and £7 depending on age, and adults, costing £9. Lessons are provided by a qualified Lawn Tennis Association coach. In addition, weekly sessions are held for a range of groups, including ladies only and 50+.

All Weather Outdoor Pitch

There is a large all-sports, all-weather outdoor artificial pitch in the grounds of Ulverston Leisure Centre. It has floodlighting, and its own pavilion complete with changing rooms. This is available to hire, and is used by a variety of local clubs for various sports. In the school holidays a range of activities are held here.

Crown Bowling Green

The centre has a private Crown Bowling green, adjacent to the outdoor sports pitch with access to the pavilion and changing room there. You can hire all the equipment you need to play, and prices start at £3.50 per person.
