Whitehaven Sports Centre

Complementing the facilities available at the nearby Copeland Pool and Fitness Centre, with joint memberships available, Whitehaven Sports Centre has a vast nine court sports hall where you can play badminton, football, basketball, netball, or even show off your moves in a roller disco. The centre has a modern gym with views of the action in the sports hall, a spinning studio along with a general use studio and a squash court. For children, there is a soft play centre, and crèche facilities are available for parents attending some classes.

The centre is located in Whitehaven town centre on the west coast of Cumbria, and pay-and-display parking is available at the site. If you wish to sign up as a member, your membership includes the use of the facilities of Copeland Pool and Fitness Centre, which is also in Whitehaven, and here you will find a swimming pool and additional fitness classes and facilities.

Gym

There is a spacious gym at the centre, housed in a mezzanine level above the sports hall, enabling users to watch the sports action below as they workout on one of the machines. The gym was refurbished in 2014 and has a good range of high quality cardiovascular and resistance equipment, as well as a small free weights area.

Fitness Classes

Whitehaven Sports Centre has two fitness studios. There is a small studio dedicated for spinning classes, and a bright, modern studio used for other types of classes. Classes available include pilates, total body conditioning, circuits, interval training and boxfit.

Sports Hall

The sports centre’s main feature is the huge sports hall that is a hub of activity. With the capacity for nine badminton courts there is plenty to keep you occupied here, whatever your interest. You can book a badminton court, play a game of table tennis, have a go at trampolining, attend the weekly roller disco (open to both children and adults), or hire half the hall for a game of basketball, netball or five-a-side football. The centre also has a squash court, available to hire.

Features for Kids

Whitehaven Sports Centre is home to Jungle Jack’s Soft Play, filled with jungle themed play structures to climb over, tunnel through and explore. There is a dedicated area for under-3s. There is no café here, but there is a seating area for parents with vending machines.

A crèche operates at the centre, each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday in the mornings. Qualified staff will look after your children for up to two hours, enabling you to attend a fitness class or workout in the gym.

Gymnastic classes are available for school-aged children, and must be block-booked in advance with a waiting list in operation. Additionally, each Saturday, there is a football academy operating in the sports hall for children. Pre-booking is not required.
