A fantastic resource for visitors and residents alike, Kendal Leisure Centre is a large centre located in the south of the town, and is one of the town’s premier venues for large events. The centre is home to two swimming pools, a recently refurbished gym, three studios, and a huge sports hall that can be set up to accommodate a range of sports with equipment available to hire. The hall is also equipped with the ability to convert into a 900 seat theatre, with regular events held throughout the year.

In recognition of the fact that disabled people often encounter difficulties with traditional changing rooms, Kendal Leisure Centre is only place in Cumbria that has a Changing Places toilet facility. The centre also offers activities to suit a range of ages and abilities.

Gym

Kendal Leisure Centre Gym

In 2014, Kendal Leisure Centre received a grant of just under £1 million for a refurbishment programme that included the creation of a new gym. The gym is a large, bright, air-conditioned space equipped with an excellent selection of cardiovascular and resistance machines. There is also a large free weights area.

The gym has a team of personal trainers, and if you sign up as a member, you will receive an induction that will include a personal training plan to help you achieve your fitness goals. You do not need to be a member to access the gym though with sessions costing £5.85.

Fitness Classes

There are three studios at Kendal Leisure Centre. Two that are used a range of classes, and one dedicated spinning studio. Along with spinning, classes include Zumba, step aerobics, yoga, total body conditioning, tai chi, circuits, and dance aerobics, ensuring that there is something to suit almost everyone’s tastes.

The centre also holds regular “Active Life” sessions for elderly and disabled people. You can attend classes on a one off basis but you do need to book in advance to be guaranteed a place. Classes cost £5.85 for non-members.

Swimming Pools

Kendal Leisure Centre has two swimming pools. The main pool is 25m long and has six lanes. Adjacent to the main pool there is a 12.5m long learner pool that is ideal for young children. The pool has a number of features to enable disabled access, including a pool side hoist and accessible changing rooms.

The pool follows a weekly timetable, so do check in advance of your visit to ensure that you can attend. Sessions available include general swimming, adults only, women only, people with disabilities and their carers, family fun (which includes inflatable toys and floats) and aquacise classes. Swimming lessons are also available.

Sports

The sports hall at Kendal Leisure Centre can accommodate a huge range of sports, and equipment is available to hire. You can book the hall in 45-minute slots, costing £32.75 per session. Sports that can be played in the hall include Badminton, tennis, table tennis, hockey, football, basketball, and netball. Regular sports events include roller disco nights.

Features for Kids

The centre holds regular sessions for children, including a weekly after school sports club, swimming lessons, and Rhythm Time sessions for babies, toddlers, and pre-school children. In the school holidays, the centre holds activity days that cover a range of sports.
