Southen Road, Penrith, CA11 8JH

Superbly equipped and in the heart of the town centre, Penrith Leisure Centre is an indoor hub for an active lifestyle. There are two swimming pools, a climbing wall, and a fitness studio offering a wide range of classes. You can play a variety of sports both indoors and outdoors with a sports hall and astro-turfed pitch, and when you have worn yourself and your family out, refuel in the café.

The centre is just a few minutes’ walk from the main shopping centre in Penrith, with free car parking, and is open to members and non-members alike. Many activities can be accessed simply by turning up on the day, but some do require pre-booking, so do check in advance of your visit.

Gym

Penrith Leisure Centre Gym

Like many of the gyms located in public leisure centres across Cumbria, the gym at Penrith Leisure Centre has recently benefited from a community grant fund, and has been completely refurbished. This huge gym is now split into five distinct zones: cardiovascular training, resistance training, circuit training, performance training and an interactive cycling zone fitted with Trixter bikes. There is a range of high-grade equipment, including Life Fitness personal training systems, as well as other accessories, such as free weights and exercise mats.

You need to have an induction, costing £6.70, before you can use the gym, and sign up as a “pay and play” member for a small administration fee. The centre has a team of personal trainers available for private, one-to-one sessions for an additional charge, and you will be given a bespoke training plan to help you meet your goals.

Fitness Classes

As part of the refurbishment, a new fitness studio was created and is now home to a large selection of classes, catering for both beginner and advanced level participants. Choose from high intensity interval training, spinning, total body workout, core stability, yoga, and much more. Furthermore, aqua aerobics classes are available in the pool. Classes cost £6 for non-members.

Swimming Pools

Penrith Leisure Centre Pool

There are two swimming pools at Penrith Leisure Centre. The main pool is 25m long and has 5 lanes. The second, smaller pool is 13m long and ideal for children. The pool has several features to enhance accessibility, including a poolside hoist and accessible changing rooms.

Along with general swim sessions the pool has dedicated, timetabled slots for lane swimming, women only swimming, and parent and toddler swimming. Swimming lessons are also available here for children.

Sports

At Penrith Leisure Centre you can play both indoor and outdoor sports. Inside there is a large sports hall that accommodates six courts. The hall can be equipped for badminton, five a side football, netball, basketball, cricket, and short tennis. You can hire a badminton court for £12, or you can opt to hire half or the entire hall.

Outside there is a full size floodlit astro-turfed pitch that can be hired on an hourly basis.

Indoor Bowls

Penrith Leisure Centre also benefits from an indoor six rink bowling green and is home to the Eden Indoor Bowls Club. Regular sessions are held for both beginners and advanced players, and the centre hosts a number of competitions. You can attend a taster, casual session, or sign up for league bowling.

Climbing Wall

With over 120-metres squared of climbing space reaching up to 8-metres high, the Eden Climbing Wall at Penrith Leisure Centre offers visitors a thrilling and dizzying challenge. You can sign up for lessons, or attend on a one-off basis, costing £4.70 for children and £6.50 for adults. Full safety equipment is provided.
