The Crown Inn (Pooley Bridge)
If you are seeking an inn that has got the wow factor then head over to the Crown Inn at Pooley Bridge. In 2017, this inn undertook a multi-million pound refurbishment making it completely unrecognisable from the inn that that was there before. The spacious bar and dining rooms have a modern and sophisticated style, and a new roof terrace has been added, along with a riverside terrace to the rear of the inn.
This inn welcomes dogs in some areas inside, and it offers luxury overnight accommodation. The inn is just a short walk from the shore of Ullswater and is popular with visitors using the steamers on the lake. There is some parking at the inn, but it is very limited so you may have to use some of the pay and display parking in the village instead.
Food & Drink

The Crown Inn is part of the Thwaites group and, consequently, the bar stocks a range of cask ales from the Thwaites brewery, with the selection changing on a regular basis. In addition, the bar has a range of beers available either on draught, or from bottles and cans, including several craft beers along with internationally recognised brands.
The wine list is impressive, with over 35 varieties available, including over a dozen that can be enjoyed by the glass. For those special occasions the bar serves a variety of cocktails, including sparkling cocktails made with Prosecco. There are over twenty gins to choose from, along with over ten whiskies, plus a wide choice of other spirits and liqueurs. For non-drinkers, there is a wide selection of premium soft drinks.
Food is served twice a day, every day. Breakfast is served from 7.30am (7am for residents) until 10am, and non-residents are welcome. There’s a breakfast buffet serving continental style options, and the inn serves a range of cooked options, including a traditional English breakfast, as well as various styles of eggs.
Food is then served again from noon until 9pm. There are a variety of sandwiches available for those who prefer a smaller bit to eat. Alternatively, you could opt for a sharing platter or a salad, with a range of options available. For more substantial appetites, the inn offers a mixture of pub classics as well as more imaginative choices, such as Piri Piri Chicken. There are choices for vegetarians and a traditional roast dinner is served each Sunday. The children’s menu provides welcome relief from the bog standard chicken nuggets that can be found elsewhere, with a range of dishes that include a nibble board that features favourites, such as cheese, grapes, carrot sticks, and sausages.
