The Pooley Bridge Inn Outside

The Pooley Bridge Inn is a charming and pretty inn that is located in the heart of Pooley Bridge. Pooley Bridge sits on the shore of Ullswater and is one of the stopping points for the Ullswater Steamers. Being just one of a handful of pubs in the village The Pooley Bridge Inn gets very busy during the summer season.

The inside of the inn is filled with character, featuring exposed beams and open fireplaces, but it is the outdoor space that is particularly popular with the summer tourists, with a courtyard beer garden to the rear. This dog friendly pub also offers overnight accommodation, which is ideal if you want to explore Ullswater.

Food & Drink

The Pooley Bridge Inn inside the pub

The pub is supplied by the Robinsons Brewery and has four cask ales available at any one time. Along with Hartley’s Cumbria Way, you will find a changing selection of Robinson’s real ales here. There are several beers and lagers on draft, including a local lager from the Hawkshead brewery, and cask cider is available if you prefer something different.

The bar stocks over 10 malt whiskies and its selection of spirits includes those created by the Lake Distillery. Wines are also provided by Robinsons who source wines from across the world, giving patrons a good choice that should suit most tastes.

The Menu

Food is served twice a day, but during the winter months, it is always best to check in advance of your visit as food service times can vary, especially during periods of poor weather. The lunch time menu offers a range of filled baguettes or jacket potatoes. The main menu is updated each season and offers a mixture of pub favourites, such as scampi or steak & ale pie, as well as modern favourites like sweet chilli chicken.

There are sharing platters for those who prefer to simply nibble, as well as a selection of salads for those who are watching their weight. The pub has a children’s menu with a limited choice of dishes that would appease most fussy eaters. There are daily specials that include options for vegans and allergies can be catered for.
