King George IV Inn (Eskdale)
Rustic and traditional with cosy fires, exposed beams, and wooden floors, the King George IV Inn is situated in the idyllic Eskdale Valley in the western Lake District. The area itself is largely uninhabited, with much of the land used for farming. The pub therefore tends to rely on trade from a couple of large campsites in the area, as well as visitors passing through on the Ravenglass & Eskdale narrow gauge railway, AKA La’al Ratty.
The inn has therefore gone to great effort to encourage visitors, offering a fabulous selection of real ales, a menu that uses the best of local produce, a games room with a pool table, and a beer garden with outstanding views of the fells.
Food & Drink

The inn is proud to support local breweries and offers up to ten real ales at any one time. There are no regular brews, with a selection that changes on a daily basis. Most of the time you can expect to find at least one ale from a west Cumbrian brewery, including the Strands Brewery located in the next valley over. However, the inn does also source beers from breweries from the wider northern England region.
If whisky is your tipple of choice then the inn is home to around 100 single malt whiskies. Alternatively, there is a reasonable wine list with a good choice available by the glass, as well as a varied menu of spirits, soft drinks, and teas and coffees.
The Menu
Food can be enjoyed in the casual bar, the more formal dining room, or the beer garden, and is served from noon until 8.45pm. Where possible, ingredients are sourced locally in order to keep the food miles to a minimum. The lunch menu is available until 5pm and comprises of sandwiches, filled rolls, and jacket potatoes.
The main menu is available throughout the day and features all of the usual pub favourites, including steak and ale pie, scampi, and lasagne, with daily specials offering something a bit more unusual. There are options for vegetarians and those with special dietary requirements can be catered for on request. There is a children’s menu that has a choice of sides.
Other Features
The pub has a separate games room with a pool table, darts board, and board games. Outside in the beer garden during the warmer months you may find outdoor games, such as giant skittles, as well as a bouncy castle. The beer garden also has a large tipi style tent providing an all weather seating area.
The inn hosts its own beer festival each year, usually coinciding with and complementing the Boot Beer Festival that takes place further up the Eskdale Valley. The inn holds other events throughout the year, including a fireworks display at bonfire night, and various Christmas and New Year celebrations. Dogs are welcome in the pub, providing they are kept on a lead.
