The Kellbank Outside

The Kellbank is a family owned pub that welcomes everyone, even your pony. Situated on the western edge of the Lake District in Gosforth, it’s ideally located as a start or end point for an adventure into Eskdale or Wasdale. This former coaching inn has been beautifully renovated in recent years and is now probably one of the most family friendly pubs in the Lake District, with indoor and outdoor play areas and children’s activities each week.

In addition, the pub has a restaurant that serves up food from the owner’s own farm, real ale from Cumbrian breweries, Sky Sports, a dog friendly bar, and overnight accommodation. In short, it is a pub that has something for everyone, including a stable for those wishing to arrive by pony, and a Tesla Car Charger for those with slightly more modern modes of transportation.

Food & Drink

The Kellbank, Gosforth pub

The sleek modern bar has a full range of beverages for patrons to enjoy, including a selection of locally brewed real ales, such as Loweswater Gold from Cumbrian Legendary Ales. You will also find a good choice of draught beers, lagers, and ciders here, including lager from Workington based Tractor Shed Brewing.

The pub has a fairly respectable wine list that would suit most tastes, and a fantastic selection of gins with a full range of mixers available. In addition, the bar has a wide variety of spirits and whiskies to choose from, as well as soft drinks and hot drinks.

The Menu

Food is served Monday to Saturday noon until 9pm and on Sundays from noon until 3pm. A lunch time menu is available from Monday to Saturday between noon and 4pm, with an excellent choice of sandwiches, jacket potatoes, and other light meals, such as salads or nachos with chilli. The main menu is more modern British rather than traditional pub grub.

You will find classic dishes here, such as British steak and ale pie, as well as internationally inspired dishes, such as Katsu Curry and an American style hot dog. The large menu also features a range of burgers, steaks, salads, and vegan and vegetarian dishes. Those on gluten free diets can also be catered for.

Home Grown Food & Kid Friendly

The pub is owned by the Mawson family who also own a large dairy farm in the area and produce from the farm is used to create the dishes, reducing the food miles. Mawson’s are best known locally for their fantastic ice cream, and you can enjoy it in the pub for dessert. Children are looked after here, with a pick and mix style menu where you can swap sides, making it ideal for fussy eaters.

On Sundays, guests can enjoy a carvery style roast dinner with a choice of three meats and a buffet of self-service sides that include Yorkshire puddings, stuffing, chipolatas, mashed and roast potatoes, and various vegetables.
